Simple WX Reporting Need...

Post by ScottVan »

What have others done in this case? I would like to simply send the contents of "Copy to Clipboard" to a few email addresses. So, 4 or 6 times a day I send this to the local TV station(s). The Cumulus Toolbox (although cool) is not really what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance, Scott

I'm not really sure what the question is ?

If you don't like using the clipboard you could create a <#webtag> .txt or html file which you could either publish to webspace or 'merge' in mail.

Or is it that you want to automate the sendmail ?

Indeed, as pointed out by beteljuice, which operations are you trying to automate, the production of a data file, the sending of that data file to a few e-mail addresses, what?

Cumulus, using a template containing webtags, can easily produce a file containing the weather data. Then a scheduler has/needs to be used to take that weather data file and, either insert it or attach it to an e-mail message - that same scheduler can/will be used to send that e-mail message.

Cumulus wonderfully supports the transmissoin of data to 6 or 7 databases (my web site, Weather Underground, APRS, PWS, etc.). I send data out to 4 sites currently - no problem.

My question was asking if anyone was sending data in a free form fashion like an email. Clearly there is no way to do this "simply" like it's handles for the databases above.

I'll go the webtag route and run a cron to send an email.

Hi,

I've got a quick and easy way to report weather out to email address. Use the "sendemail" freeware utility from here:

http://caspian.dotconf.net/menu/Software/SendEmail/

I set this up to simply send the "index.htm" from from my web directory to a few TV and radio stations that solicit weather info from nearby communities.

c:\sendemail -f scott@spiffy.com -t weather@wnyt.com -a c:\cumulus\web\indes.htm -u Ballston Lake Weather

Created a batch file that has the command sendemail and the necessary parameters. Used Windows Scheduler to run it 3 or 4 times in the morning and a few times at night. Gives all the details these guys are looking for. Snow reports are on an as needed basis...
