website hosting

Post by kf5ept »

I am wanting to create a website for my weather station. I just don't really know where to start or what is a good hosting site. I would like to use a free hosting site but if I have to pay I would like to not pay to much.

Thanks
David

Hi there, Where in the world are you? I do my own hosting, as I have a own FrameIT. Hosting can be expensive, and you need to be careful of what you are getting for your dollars. Some free hosts are good, but can be slow and have forced ads and limits on the traffic bandwidth (people viewing your site). Also there are some paid host which sound cheap but can have very large limits on what you can do, like the size of your site.

My weather site is hosted on my own host, and the site is build with Concrete 5 content management system (CMS) the CMS lets you quickly update information and make changers when you need.

Here is my site http://www.tepukeweather.co.nz this is another one that is still under construction http://www.ohauitiweather.co.nz

This link is for my company have a read of the 'What is Hosting' may give you a better understanding. http://www.frameit2010.co.nz

If I can help you with anything please ask.

Read about web hosting in the Wiki (always read the Wiki! ) http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Webspace

I myself like the FREE option. I went with 000webhost.com (that's my "don't use" in the Wiki) at first. The only problem was not allowing .txt files. All that ment was that you couldn't upload realtime.txt which inturn meant the realtime speed and direction wouldn't work in the gauges.htm page and thus the CumulusRealtime.html page wouldn't work (if you decide to run that awsome page as well). I ended up having my site cancelled by them suddenly for no reason. ???. It could have been the girlie pictures getting rained on. I don't know. Some hosts don't allow weather sites as we are continually uploading stuff  .
I now run my site from home. Information is on my site at the bottom of the page.
