WH3080 Will it work in South Africa

Post by EagleEyes »

I'm looking at buying a WH3080 Wireless Weather Station for my father who lives in South Africa, however I'm concerned that the time signal will be an issue, can anyone advise?

You can set the time I think the 1080 can also set manually the only disadvantage is that you sometimes have to adjust the time.

Hi,

AFAIK the time signal data is not transmitted in SA and the expected range is only about 1,000 miles from Germany. So the 3081 would be as suitable if you can find it more cheaply.

However, you can manually set the time on the 3080 so it should still be completely usable. Might even avoid issues of automatic Daylight Saving Time (or not).

Cumulus uses the PC's clock anyway, so the time only needs to be set for the LCD display on the console/logger.

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks, I shall order one then as it will be a great birthday present for my dad who has been recording rain and temperature manually for most of his life, and at 80, this will keep him going for years to come hopefully :)

Hi,

Try to test it all in the UK first if you can (assuming you're buying it here) as the Quality Control of these Chinese Fine Offset stations is not all that it might be.

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks, and yes looking at the posts about the not so great quality control - I'll definately test it here first.
