RJ Connectors and how one thing leads to another

Post by apenwith »

Hi
I recently had to replace the wind direction head as the bearing seized up and broke completely when I tried to slacken it.
As it happened the new one did not work either - it tested on an ohmmeter but seemed to have different resistance values so the old reed switch board went into the new head and all was well. Almost. Now the speed stopped working and in the end I found that because I had removed the RJ plug several times one of the spring leaves in the socket had gone flat and lost contact. Not for the first time have these RJ connectors gone unreliable so the answer was to remove the socket (not easy if you don't have a desolderer which I have) and the anemometer was hard wired in. Bingo - reliability.
Regards
Alan

Alan,

Were the wires in the socket corroded or bent?

Its good to know that the RJ socket can be replaced.
