Wind Direction

Hi Steve

I have just replaced my direction unit (the bearing seized) and for some reason it is showing the wind 180° out - and yes it is installed correctly as the previous one was. Mayb this is a new design ?? If I compensate with a -180 calibration will this work for bearing of less than 180.

Regards

Alan

I don't understand how the console can be showing the correct direction but giving Cumulus a value that's 180 degrees out. That would surely require different console firmware, and you've only changed the wind sensor? But yes, you can use a 180 degree offset (probably better to use a positive 180 rather than negative).

Thanks Steve

The console is also 180° out - I did put an aluminium tail extension on but I can't see that would affect the reed switches. It could of course just be a faulty unit as it has only shown SE (really NW) so I'll have to wait for the wind to change.

Hi Alan,

Did you put a compensating weight at the front and/or is the axis absolutely vertical? Can you see which way the vane is actually pointing?

You might be able to check the resistance of the sensor unit with a multimeter and compare that with the values posted by Gina at the end of this page. I believe that SW8 points North.

Cheers, another Alan.

Hi
Thanks for that - it looks as though SE could have a high resistance so it could be I have a high resistance in my cable connections which is skewing things (the wind sensors are about 15M away from the transmitter) - but the weather and the light are against me looking today.

Alan

If it's made in China they may have placed the out 180 out or the sensors 180 out. Maybe they were doing upside down Tai Chi in the factory  . Do you feel like reassembling it (if you ever view the console)?
