New Out of the box WH3080 not reading the external sensors.

Post by brookvale0 »

Can anybody suggest if I am doing anything wrong.

Bought a new WH3080 and inserted the batteries as suggested in the manual in the outside transmitter first and then the console and everything worked - all reading lit and were being received. This was on the sofa in the front room one evening and not having the time, fixing brackets or daylight to fix it in the garden I took the batteries out with a view to fixing at the weekend.

Now it doesn't matter what I do, the console will not receive a signal from the remote transmitter an I haven't got to the garden yet.

Tried the batteries in the transmitter first, then the console and visa versa nothing!
New batteries - but the low battery signals were not light.
Left the batteries out for different time periods up to 24 hr and tried again.

Red light comes on the remote transmitter and reception signal is lit in the top right hand corner of the console.

This is all before I try to upload this excellant software. :x

Just a piece of information you need to be aware of: If the console is connected to a computer (USB), then even if you remove the batteries, the console is still powered.

Hi,

Have you waited at least 5 - 10 minutes after the batteries have been inserted? I believe that soon after inserting the batteries the 3080 transmitter unit goes away for several minutes to look for the radio timesignal. I don't have the manual to hand, but I think that page 4 explains (in fractured Chinese translation) the starting sequence, and that with the 3080 (not the 108x) you can force the logger to search for the transmitter by holding in the <up arrow> button for 3+ seconds.

EDIT: Ah, I see it's <Down Arrow> for 4+ seconds, thanks Mauricio. :)

Cheers, Alan.

Hi,

That it did work once does rather exonerate FO's dubious Quality Control. If the red (transmit) LED is flashing and the LCD panel working then reversed batteries are unlikely to have been the cause. So check for radio interference from for example, mobile/cordless phones, WiFi and homeplug (mains) internet, etc..

As far as the time data is concerned you may need to rotate the "external unit" to optimise its antenna direction (regardless of the solar unit and 434MHz antenna) and wait overnight for lower interference. The directionality of this antenna was discussed in a thread recently but I can't find it ATM.

Cheers, Alan.

Hello Alan

Switched of the phones off, don't have WiFi, also old style moderm for the internet into the phone socket, not a home network. Very rural location so would not have thought interference from neighbours.

Trying again - Fingers crossed!

Have you tried removing the batteries for a extended period of time? (Take them out of both the transmitter and receiver for 5-10 minutes, then plug them back in receiver, wait 1-2 minutes, then plug them back into the receiver)

Thanks again to everybody - think it's back to the supplier.. exhausted every combination possible. Will let you know how things get resolved.

Disappointed as I have now missed logging one of the unusual passages of hot weather here in the UK for years. And today would have tested the rain gauge to it's limits!

Best wishes to every one.
