Hi!

Template has been modified to correct problems/mistakes.

In the Trends page, 12h is mine, but <#graphperiod> is used,
then it will be set as your station config.

In the Now Page it indicates :
Observations at 10:10 on
29 octobre 2011

... on 2 lines. could it be cutted to display instead :
Observations at 10:10 only?? (since it is Today's weather title)

Thanks to participate!

Jacques, a suggestion and an answer.

Suggestion: Since the templates you are designing are to be modern and up-to-date with Internet, may I suggest that you use HTML5.

I know HTML5 has not been 'officially approved' by the W3C yet but all modern browsers seem to support HTML5 (surprisingly enough, even Internet Explorer) as it offers so much more (so much more power is now available for Web page design).

And for those that will 'preach' for the support for older incompatible browsers ... I will simply advise them to use HTML5 Boilerplate (or something similar) within their pages ... and keep the Internet in the 'dark ages of IE6/7/8'...

As for an answer: The only way of cutting down (pruning) a long string (such as 'Observations at 10:10 on<BR />29 octobre 2011') would be to use some PHP or JavaScript code ... although 'pruning' might be available with HTML5...

Hi Ray!

This template is for "newbies" and I try to produce a template as plain as possible, but with a design real shinny! This template is like the first "Beatle", you can blow it in part with a screwdriver and a "wescott"!

I have an other template "on oven", full Php with only one file to process! Gauges will be "one of a kind"! And I've allways sent the 474 webtags in Php ready to "include".

And I have a 3rd project. Thermor Canada has offer me a 265nc to build a test station for that project. But days have always only 24h

I've always done some experiments with HTML 5, for canvas in particular, but results were bad... Never the same results between browser! Sometime it was only color mismatch, but other time it was worst!

Finally, for date in template's Now page, I found complete date a little bit long (in French version i've used only Time). But I think in this case "newbies" will be best served by Webtags of that kind :

Code: Select all

<p>Observations at <#time format="hh:nn"><br />on<#time format="d mmmm yyyy">
Tanks for comments,
Jacques

Jacques, HTML5 is even simpler (more simple) than HTML4. For example, a line such as (in HTML4):

Code: Select all

<table width="100%"  border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" summary="Observations actuelles">
that line is simplified to (in HTML5):

Code: Select all

<table style="width: 100%;">
...And there are many such similar lines into the Météo Soleil templates - I have taken a PHP break today and I have spent much of my time updating the Météo Soleil templates to HTML5... ...might even send them your way if you are interested... ;)

Too many people are making 'canvas' appear as a big/huge part of HTML5, it is only one new tag (of many new tags).

Hi Rob!

I told some months ago that Cumulus has reached a certain maturity... and it was only v1.8.9 !!

I love Cumulus a lot for its "underused" capacity of being "skinnable"... and "Templatable"!
Maybe a little "geek oriented" at this moment and I think that if someones could publish their "beauties" Cumulus will be a huge succes on "all knowledge amateur weather operators".

But I think Cumulus has never more to proove it's serious oriented capacities... it has now to be a software with complete line of add-ons and template for all needs.

Then my next template will be out of "cartoon-like" look, but will not be too complicate for newbies. I think that we could not compete with "Meteo Média / Weather Network", but web surfers are allways searching some "fresh' and diffrent sites... then our "look" could do the diffrence!

But I've study computers in the "KISS" era, then others will be able to do better with these. That's in part why I translated it for others.

Hi!

I have finished template's "About" page.
Since that page is more textual, I need your help!

I've put some text describing station's installations, but all is open!
If you have a bright idea or just a suggestion... go ahead!!

... and I've finished the installation and configuration page, completed with a little utility "Color schemer changer" to have automaticly the right colors for Cumulus graphs and gauges sent to the template.

I now work on last page "The System Console".

You could see the page to approuv at this link : http://meteoduquebec.com/TemplateQC/eng/infos.htm

Only one suggestion, colour schemes for the "broadcasting bit" the yellow is hard to read, maybe that to black, and the cumulus version to red?

I hope you do not mind me saying this but the English is a bit strange.

"Located at (YOUR CITY), our station broadcast on Internet since 16 octobre 2011.
On a voluntary basis, this website owner had invested time and money to put online a full qualified weather site. Broadcasting meteorological informationse on the Web at regular interval, and that 24h/day.
For running that site, the following equipment has been dedicated exclusivly at that task for My Weather Site"

"This weather station is located at (YOUR CITY), and has been broadcasting on the Internet since 16th October 2011.

I maintain this web site on a voluntary basis and the site provides online weather data for my local area. The site's weather information is updated every xx minutes and is available 24/7.

The data provided on the site is collected by using the following weather station :"

Also don't think is a good idea to publish your email address as spam bots will soon be inundating you with their rubbish!!

Other than that very good.

I have been meaning to ask if the entire template is ready to download as I like the layout etc.?

Hi Water01,

Yes my English is poor, in part because Quebec is a French country and we have no chance to practice English!

French conterpart of "Sunny Weater" template is already available as "Météo Soleil". But now I try to translate it in English, For non-French speaking people (a demand was be made for German too!). That's why I'm searching help here.

Template is 90% translated as you can see at "prototype" link. Then, it will be available in less then a week.

Thanks for help,
Jacques

Hi!

Template has been "corrected" on comments received.
- Text has changed
- Yellow "unreadable" link color has been changed.

Final version is here : http://meteoduquebec.com/TemplateQC/eng/infos.htm

Only one other page to do... launch is near!

I realised that so I hope I did not cause offence. Your English is better than my French!!

Look forward to seeing the completed template.

Hi Jacques,

I set my Cumulus site up a few months ago with little knowledge but with help from a few on this site and from the Wiki instructions.
Since doing so, I have been trying to play around and make it look more funky, but have failed miserably.
So, to see your design and also for offering to make a template for all to share, I thank you, on behalf of all wannabe but illiterate website designers like myself

Oh, and your english is actually better than many native english speakers I see posting on the internet!

Really looking forward to having a play with this when you're done, but please make the instructions idiot proof so dumbos like me can follow it

Cheers,

Bigmac
