crazy barometer rates

Hi everyone
Its been 2 years since i bought National Geographic 265NE (fine offset). This time after changing the batteries i saw that the tendency icon started flashing and barometer started to fall with rates sometimes 8hPa/hr!!! (i had my station barometer low record
) I reset the panel, changed batteries once again and it started doing the same crazy stuff once got very high after this, falls rapidly.
Has anyone any idea why this could happen?
The only thing that i realized i did wrong is that during the previous battery changing i used rechargable Ni-Mh batteries although without any problems for 4 months. Can this somehow destabilize the function of the two parts?
