Cannot delete High Rainfall Amount

Post by raflec »

Every day when I download the stored data, the daily rainfall and the last hour of rain comes out at 401.8mm. I have tried amending the data in the day file and in the monthly file, however on the next download the rainfall once again comes out at 401.8mm.
Although this has been initially added to the total days rainfall, each subsequent day is not added. i.e it has only been added once.

Please zip up the diags folder (in the Cumulus folder) and attach it.

The problem started on the 24th when you closed Cumulus down just before midnight. This is always dangerous, because when Cumulus starts up again it only has the logger entries to take it through the midnight rollover, so you expose yourself to any bugs in the complicated code which tries to work out what it needs to do. When it started up again, it decided that the logger data didn't cover the missing period, because it was closed on the 23rd and the first logger entry was for 00:00 on the 24th, apparently a different day. It didn't know what to do, so reset the rain counter to zero. Someone else hit the same problem recently, and I have changed the code in 1.9.2 so it doesn't do this reset. But you should still avoid closing Cumulus just before midnight.

To fix your current rainfall, you need to stop Cumulus and edit today.ini. In the rain section:

[Rain]
High=0
HTime=00:00
Start=0
Yesterday=0
LastTip=2011-09-25 15:10
HourlyHigh=401.799987792969
HHourlyTime=14:07

set the Start= figure to 402.4 (I think that's the current rain counter in the station) and you should then have zero rain for today when you start Cumulus.

Thanks very much Steve. All working fine again.
I remember seeing that thread about shutting down before midnight, but the penny never dropped until it happened to me.
Now I do know and for any others, please do take note.
Thanks once again Steve and I look forward to the new version.
