You're correct that my all-time record would not be broken by recent temps but given the exceptional temperatures for late September I wanted a way of Cumulus recording it. Hence a set of records for each of the 12 months.

I am hoping a set of monthly records would be viewable all year round, not just in the current month. So, for example, if I wanted to view my station's all-time records for October those would be available to me this morning.

Yes, this would require a new set of files which is a substantial piece of work for Steve and why I suspect it's taking a while for him to consider how best to plan it. Steve posted a link to my suggestion at the start of this thread. Does that help?
Ray,

The current set of html files contains month and year records pages as well as all time records. Well, at least all the ones with the beta version do.

The month and year records are just for the current month and year. What Ray is asking for is 12 new sets of all-time records, one for each month of the year. This allows you to see, for example, what your highest ever January temperature was, your highest ever wind speed in April, etc. Cumulus doesn't currently provide this directly.

I know they do but that doesn't give me what I'm asking for. I want Cumulus to store the extremes for all 12 months. Have another read of what I'm asking for. ;)

Apologies Ray,

Got it now! Yes, that would be good.

Hi Ray,

Why not just make your own as I do and always have.
I have templates for each month. I used to change them manually but now use Steve's thismonth's webtags.

What you could do is just before midnight on the last day of the month is save thismonth.htm as monthsept.htm or whatever and there is September all done for you.
Meanwhile thismonthT.htm carries on into October. At the end of October do the same thing.
Then all you need to do is link your months together.

I dont use thismonth. I have my own pages all named by their months ( 2011octT.htm and 2011oct.htm) but I use the webtags for the month and use cumulus to upload them. At the end of the month I stop it uploading and set up the next month to upload.

Ok that sounds all ways too confusing even for me and I know what I mean.
Have a look what I have maybe easier and then ask.

http://wairoa.net/weather/records/2011sep.htm

You will see I also add stuff to the final page and then ftp it back up to my server.
Have a look at nov 2011:

http://wairoa.net/weather/records/2011nov.htm

You will see my template is ready but no data.
It also only has data that I have web tags for except Total rain Days of which I manually add.
These pages are all separate. I just stop them at the end of the month.
So on Friday night I stopped September from being uploaded. I changed it and told cumulus to upload october instead and so the cycle goes.
On the top right is the menu to link them all and allow for navigation.

I also have these pages printed so they are at my finger tips for when our local council wants data.
The other summary pages as with data summary then breaks the month down for me.
I hope this may give you some ideas on what you can do.

Cheers
Jenny

Hi Jenny,

I appreciate you taking the time to explain how you create your pages but I still think you are missing the point of my request. I'm not interested in any particular month. Only the extremes for a month and the year they occured.

So, for example, I now have 3 years of data for September and want an easy way to identify the hottest September day and the year in which it occured. In 2009 it was 23.7 on the 8th. In 2010 it was 22.9 on the 2nd and in 2011 it was 28.2 on the 30th. So on a separate page of records for September it would show the highest temperature was 28.2 on day 30 in 2011.

I can't see that information held on your webpages. To determine your highest temp in September (or any other month) how do you establish that from the pages you have available? I think you would have to look at each year and work it out manually as I have had to do.

Hence why I would like Cumulus to do it but it involves a substantial piece of work by Steve.

Hi Ray,

Yes I would have to compare years but thats easy for me at present as I only have 2 years.
So two pages to compare and I can easily flick backwards and forwards which is what I do. Plus the printed months are right there in front of me :)
You could easily do this manually.
What I have I was doing long before Steve put out thismonth and thisyear.
Using what webtags were available I manually created the running month.
I guess you could manually create the pages you are after as they the extremes overall are not going to change considerably during any given month.
Yep you would have to do it manually checking say every week.
But considering how much Steve has to do and where his priorities lie it would be easy enough until said pages became part of the Cumulus build.
Cheers
Jenny

Hi Jenny,

Wait until you have 10 years of data and then see how much of a pain it would be. ;)

I might just be able to do this manually but it would become a chore and no doubt somewhere along the line I would either miss a record or become tired of the effort. The difference between me doing it and Steve changing Cumulus is that I only affect my own site whereas Steve's code will provide this info for all Cumulus owners.

He has already said it would be a useful addition so I'm prepared to bide my time. After all, the whole point of using software to record weather stats is that IT does the hard work so you don't have to. ;)

I use Microsoft Access widely in my job and have built a database at home to store the contents of my Dayfile.txt.

Last night I wrote some code and designed a form to extract and display monthly extremes. I added some formatting rules to spice it up a bit.

I'm quite pleased with the results but of course I can't upload this to my website. Although this display shows all 12 months in one go I may also design a one month per screen option just to make things a bit easier to view.

Despite having an indifferent summer it's interesting how many high temps were set in 2011. Then again, I've only had my station running 29 months!

Hi Jenny,

Just reviving an older thread and thanks for your explanation of how you record your stats.
I was actually quite surprised that no one has automated this, say from the Annual Data Summary SQL table.
I was looking for exactly what you do with the monthly summaries, to add to my website, but I think this is a little bit faffy for my liking (not to mention that I don't understand how to do the coding). I prefer to have such tasks automated as I know I will either forget or not have time when I need to do it.
It took me a bit to get to grips with the Annual Data Summary, but do you think it would be straight forward enough to modify David's coding for this to try and do what you do with the monthly summaries?

Or perhaps the likes of beteljuice et al, may look upon this project as a little distraction to while away the next few minutes and pound out a few lines of code, whilst I merely gaze on in wistful wonder.......

Thank you again anyway!

A few lines of code ........... :bash:

The beteljuice did start playing, but got sidetracked as usual:

Month Overview

Month All-Times The first two and half columns work

I'm impressed Rigel Beteljuice. More info than I've gathered myself. Just needs the year adding now. That will be another couple of lines of code I guess. ;)
