Erroneous max temp

Hi Steve

Question. I had an anomolous max temp yesterday of 56 degrees at 1.55 am (we should be so lucky)

I have edited the dayfile and changed that entry to read 22.4, which was the actual highest temp for the day (I didn't bother changing the time as it doesn't really seem to matter so much). I re-uploaded the files using 'Web Update' in Cumulus. Although the web page date shows it has refreshed, the max temp is still there both on the 'Yesterday' page and on the graph for max/av/min temps.

Have I missed something? (Usually much better at this)

Many thanks

Nick,

Yesterday's data is stored in yesterday.ini in the data folder. You have 6 hours left to correct it. ;)

Ah! Thats brilliant. Huge thanks. I didn't know of that ini. Hopefully I will be back home before I turn into a pumpkin and will make that change. Again many thanks

You could just turn into a pumpkin anyway, and it will correct itself at midnight. Whichever you find easier :D

Nick,

Your rainfall records look a little suspect on your all-time page. I'm assuming there wasn't a downpour of biblical proportions in Suffolk on 3 July.

The high wind gust of 99mph on 20 July also looks suspect. You may need to use the dayfile.txt editor to correct those values which should then rebuild your all-time recs but Steve is the expert in that area.

Hi Ray

yes you are right....we didn't need to build an ark in July. I have no idea why this station occasionally throws up a spurious and ridiculous reading. Mind you.... right now the rain gauge has stopped recording anything. Been up the pole and cleaned it all out but still nothing. 10 months old system and bought through Amazon from what turned out to be a German supplier. Can't even find anyone who sells parts.

I will amend that file as you suggest, and thanks for pointing it out for me. I am a bit of an enthusiastic amateur with this stuff. :o)

Hi Nick,

I see you've removed those high rain readings but the records now show zero. There must be a way to refresh the all-time data but I don't remember how to do it.

It must be frustrating when those blips occur. I don't know how common they are with the Fine Offset range but you'e not the first to suffer the consequences.

If you ever decide to change hardware the Davis VP range is excellent but it comes with a hefty price tag.

Hi Ray

Oh how i aspire to a Davis VP..... and it's in the queue with more expensive lenses for my Nikon, a 3d 55inch plasma, and a hot tub complete with all\weather enclosure. Ho hum...10mill double rollover could help.

Yeah, I know I ended up with zero rain, but likewise I cannot see how to refresh the list. Steve...... do you have any pearls of wisdom for me (I managed to avoid pumpkin status last night)?

I had to invent some dates and temps for the erroneous max, although I still can't get rid of spikes in the graphs. Still, it isn't life threatening. Any help as always gratefully received chaps. :o)

Try, the records editor, it can extract the data from the day file

Hi Nick,

Bad connector contacts seem to be a common problem. The sensor only consists a magnetic reed switch which closes whilst the see-saw tips so it's quite easy to test if you have a multimeter (or a battery and LED might do).

A supplier of complete spare sensors has been discussed recently on this forum, I think £10 plus shipping. I'm sure we can find the supplier if you need one. Or a replacement reed or connector from Maplin or Ebay, etc..

Cheers, Alan.

You have to get your priorities right Nick. ;) Forget holidays for a year (the missus will understand) and invest in (not buy) a Davis VP2. It's 100% reliable and built to last. I have an old Oregon Scientific and the radio frequency signal is nowhere near as robust.

As for the new lens. Just get the 18-200 and it covers every situation. :D Plasma prices are dropping every day. They'll soon be giving them away. ;)

You are absolutely right Ray. I have, in three years, killed a 200 pound lacrosse and now a ninety pound Fine Offset. That makes one VP doesn't it? Trouble is I have already spent that money. But I covet one all the same.
I have the 18-200 and a Sigma 120-400 and a nice 50mm 1.8 prime. But there is always another highly desirable piece of glass. Or a D700 body. Oh how I dream!
Maybe the vp should be next. At least Steve supports that with Cumulus. He can't help ne with Nikon. Lol
Ever onward..........

That's what I mean Nick. A few cheaper stations can add up to the cost of a VP2 especially if you take advantage of the deals being offered. You'll struggle to find one second-hand.

The only thing I have coveted is my neighbour's ox. :D Are you allowed to do that?

Nice lenses so you don't need the new body. Save up for the VP2 but in the meantime don't forget to delete the erroneous high temp record on WUnderground. Otherwise you'll have the Spanish invading assuming Felixtowe is hotter than Marbella! :D
