Cumulus Realtime

I am feeling like a complete idiot. :bash:
I cannot get the realtime guages.

Davis VP2 6163
VirtualVP-running WL, Cumulus.

All web pages go on an in house web server-no ftp

I need help on what needs to be processed and uploaded to my file area.

Which files should be copied into the webspace? I need all of them
Which files get processed by Cumulus.

Cumulus picks up the info just fine but the realtime info will not load.

Could you clarify whether you mean the 'standard' Flash real time gauges (just the two wind gauges) on the gauges.htm page, or the separate Silverlight package? There's (understandable) confusion between the two.

The Flash gauges just require the realtime.txt file. As you're copying rather than using FTP, you need to list the realtime.txt file on the 'files' tab of the internet settings.

Could you give a link to your site, please, it would help diagnosis. Or when you say it's 'in house', do you mean not accessible to the internet?

I am trying to get the silverlight page to work

All my web files are kept on a server that has its own url-no ftp is needed.
So the district hosts my website

my main page is weather.rms.rdale.org/weather.php
any files I need are in that folder

These are the cumulus pages I get
http://weather.rms.rdale.org/realtime.htm
http://weather.rms.rdale.org/CumulusRealtime.html (this wants to load but says loading data-seems to work better inside the network than at home.
http://weather.rms.rdale.org/CumulusRealtime.swf

realtime.txt is not being uploaded into my web folder-but it is into the cumulus program folder

here is my xml file too
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
- <initialisation>
<realtimeURL>http://weather.rms.rdale.org/realtime.html</realtimeURL>
<sitename>Robbinsdale Middle School Weather</sitename>
<interval>10</interval>
<gustlabel>Wind Gust</gustlabel>
<windlabel>Wind Speed</windlabel>
<winddirlabel>Wind Direction</winddirlabel>
<templabel>Temp</templabel>
<dewpointlabel>Dew Point</dewpointlabel>
<windchilllabel>Wind Chill</windchilllabel>
<humiditylabel>Humidity</humiditylabel>
<pressurelabel>Pressure</pressurelabel>
<dailyrainlabel>Daily Rain</dailyrainlabel>
<monthlyrainlabel>Monthly Rain</monthlyrainlabel>
<annualrainlabel>Annual Rain</annualrainlabel>
<fullscreenlabel>Full screen</fullscreenlabel>
<backgroundtopcolour>B4B4B4</backgroundtopcolour>
<backgroundbottomcolour>000000</backgroundbottomcolour>
<fontcolour>FFFFFF</fontcolour>
</initialisation>

You need to configure your web server for Silverlight (.xap) files:

Error: Unhandled Error in Silverlight 2 Application
Code: 2104
Category: InitializeError
Message: Could not download the Silverlight application. Check web server settings

Source File: http://weather.rms.rdale.org/CumulusRealtime.html
Line: 53

It looks like you are using IIS, so see http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/262/conf ... lications/

You will probably also need to edit this:

<realtimeURL>http://weather.rms.rdale.org/realtime.html</realtimeURL>

It needs to reference your realtime.txt file (like in the example that it comes configured with), not a web page. If the realtime.txt file isn't on your web server, you need to get Cumulus to copy it there periodically using the files tab of the internet settings, and ticking 'Enable Realtime' on the settings tab.

Note that CumulusRealtime.swf is the older 'Flash' version of the realtime gauges and is not part of the Silverlight version. All the Silverlight version requires is the .xap and .xml files to be manually put in place once only, and the realtime.txt file to be uploaded periodically by Cumulus, supplying the actual data.

Since I don't have major server access-I will have to talk to the IT people.

I am a unique situation for the district. I keep thinking I may have to move it off the server-then I will prob find out I can't FTP anything.

One trick that sometimes works to avoid configuring the web server, is to rename the CumulusRealtime.xap file to CumulusRealtime.zip, and change the reference in the page that loads it to match. It surprises me that it works, but it does seem to.

I can't get the txt file to upload into my server space. It does not require ftp.
How do I tell Cumulus to put the files into the web server?

Go to Cumulus then Configuration/Internet/Files then browse for the realtime.txt file you have in your Cumulus folder then get it to put it in your webspace folder and tick realtime (don't need to "Process" or "FTP").

Once you've got the realtime.txt file in your server folder, just change that .xml link from htm to .txt. You have a realtime.htm page, I guess you were hoping that that would work, but I don't think you need it.
Also, when viewing the CumulusRealtime.htm page within your own network, it may not work. What you may find is that you can't access your own website using your normal URL you put out to the public, instead using your "local host" URL. This is the same when viewing pages that make reference to a normal URL. As the .xml makes reference to http://weather.rms.rdale.org, if within your own server, it won't work. A way around this if you can't get to another computer/phone that is linked to the internet out of your server, is change this. What I did, which was just to test, is to change the URL link in the .xml to refer to your local host URL (eg http://127.0.0.1). This will then work for computer's within the server network, but not out of it, this is why it's just to test.
See how you go with that.

Oh duh moment

I finally figured out that I needed to put
s:\weather\realtime.txt in the remote file name place. Then check realtime.
now there is

weather.rms.rdale.org\realtime.txt and \realtime.htm

I will also have to get IT to configure the folder for silverlight-like Steve posted before
