Rainfall did not reset for new day

My rain data did not reset at midnight so the total includes yesterdays rain. The yesterday rain shows the day before. Does anybody know if this is correctable in one of the data files? I changed the numbers in the September log for today but that did not make a difference. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :(

The best way to recover from this is usually to stop Cumulus, copy the files from the latest backup that it took before the problem into the data folder, then start Cumulus again. But in addition, we really need to work out why it didn't do the rollover. Please zip up the diags folder and attach it.

Steve,

I cannot attach a zipped folder, only files. I have 10 files in the folder with cumulus.005 to cumulus.009 dated 9/10/11. Do you want all 10 files or just those from the 10th?

Jerry

I really only need the one that covers the period where the rain shouldn't have reset. I don't know why you can't attach a zip file; it's a format that the forum does accept; people are uploading zip files here all the time.

I think Steve he is trying to Zip the folder rather than the contents of the folder.

Jerry just go into the folder, select all the files Steve wants (select the top of the list so it goes blue, then go to the bottom of the list press the shift and select the last file and all the others will go blue).

Release the shift key and right click on the selected files, and from the menu that appears select Send To and then in the second menu Compressed (Zipped) Folder. Then send the folder / file with .zip extension to Steve.

It's easier to zip the folder. Right click on the folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder, this creates a file called diags.zip.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Looking in the Diags folder I am not sure why certain files are created. There is no file for certain dates. I have a files for 9/5, 9/7, 9/8 and 5 files for 9/10. Despite all the instructions for attaching a zipped folder, the forum only allows files from within the folder. The 2 files attached are the last file before 9/10 and the first file on 9/10.

I usually turn my computer off at night and restart the next day. Cumulus usually updates OK. On the night of September 9th I left the computer running overnight and it did not update.

I appreciate all the help.
Thanks,
Jerry

You're allowing your computer to suspend:

9/9/2011 22:20:00.747 : Writing today.ini, LastUpdateTime = 9/9/2011 10:20:00 PM raindaystart = 9.79133892059326 rain counter = 10.8188972473145
9/9/2011 22:20:04.944 : Windows SUSPEND broadcast received
9/10/2011 08:10:00.658 : Writing today.ini, LastUpdateTime = 9/10/2011 8:10:00 AM raindaystart = 9.79133892059326 rain counter = 10.8188972473145

If you want to allow it to suspend, you have to close Cumulus first.

Thanks Steve,

The computer goes into a sleep (suspend) mode after 2 hours of inactivity. I never noticed a problem with the data before as I have been running Cumulus for several months. I guess it is only a problem with the rainfall numbers. I have now turned off the sleep mode.

I send my data to Weather Underground and even though I turn my computer off at night it still appears to update WU data in the morning. I have the dayfile.txt listed in the Internet Settings. Is this expected or do I need to change any settings?

Thanks again,
Jerry :)

It's a problem with all of the data; if the computer suspends while Cumulus is running you gets gaps in your data and incorrect calculation of averages etc. It's an even bigger problem if the computer is suspended at midnight as in this case, because then all of the data continues from one day to the next, so all highs and lows etc are now incorrect.

I don't follow - do you not want it to update WU when it starts up in the morning? You can't stop it doing the WU 'catch up' in 1.9.1, but there's an option to turn it off in 1.9.2.

Steve,

You are a wealth of information. Yes, I want WU to update and want to keep my computer off at night. I was concerned the WU would have data gaps if my computer was off for 10 hours. I guess you are telling me it will update WU with the historical data when I start Cumulus in the morning. I also assume that the Cumulus download of data from my Weatherwise station every morning should be correct.

I am using version 1.9.1, is there a new version available?

Thanks again,
Jerry

There's the "beta" version, 1.9.2.
