Maplin N96FY (Fine Offset WH-1801?) Cable pin-out?

I'm trying to extend my station so that he Temp/Hygro sensor is in the same screen as my "traditional" thermometers.

I've tried a couple of cables that have been recommended in previous threads (from Play.com and Amazon, both in th UK), and neither worked. I suspect this is because the cables only have 4 conductors connected.

I lose the wind direction function (anemometer is OK).

I guess I need to make up my own cables (or find some with all six wires connected).

Does anyone know the connection details please? Is there a cross or will a straight 6 wire extention be OK?

Thanks for your help.

Which cable(s) are you trying to extend - wind, rain, or both? The wind cable has four conductors, and the rain cable has two. On mine, at least.

Thanks Steve,

Both initially, although I actually only want to extend the wind sensor cable (the rain gauge will sit near enough to the screen to use the supplied cable).

I remain baffled then (nothing new!) as I've metered the cables that I've been trying, and they are connected straight (pin to pin). Only pins 2, 3, 4 & 5 are connected however, so I was wondering if the outer pins (1&6) are used (even though it doesn't look like it to me).

Keep trying - this will eventually work.
Pins 1 & 6 are not connected, you simply need the center 4. Most of us have replaced the existing cable to avoid adding another connection that's tough to waterproof. I've had your issue in the past while experimenting with removing temperature spikes caused by the longer cables - the connections are a little flaky. You may also need to be patient - sometimes it takes a minute or two for things to start registering, and sometimes you need to reset the unit by removing batteries and waiting a bit.

Thanks to all. Charlie was right, and the station is now working with a 15 metre extention cable.

Of the four cables I had, one worked intermittently, and 3 not at all. After adjusting (i.e. bending) the contacts slightly at the thermo / transmitter connectors seems to have done the trick, meaning it was the station, not the cables that were the problem.

For once I'm happy it's a wet and windy night here!
