I never read them either. I vaguely remember from years ago one Microsoft agreement ran to over 40 pages of A4 when pasted in Word. That is disgraceful!

No one reads those, well no longer than it takes to figure out which button to press to get it to move on with things instead of wasting your time. (and a waste of time is what lawyers are and do.)

Hmm... I'll wait for the outcome of David's survey, but it looks like I won't be making Cumulus available for much longer :(

Not for a moment did I think otherwise

My licence agreement is really just "Be Reasonable".

Steve, you should not take it to heart, it's just that large companies have degraded the process by having taken things way too far, and if they are being truthful most people just see it as simply another button to push in the install process. That has no reflection on how they see your rights as an author. I guess a better way to do it might be what's really needed here.

For what it is worth, I take the view that these things are written by lawyers, and I am not a lawyer and so I am in all truth not qualified to say I have definitively understood them. Unless you are a lawyer how could one reasonably say otherwise.

It's like when Doctors ask how you are, I am simply not qualified to give any sort of valid answer. Humans do odd things like this, it's part of how and what we are, a slightly but wonderfully odd species!

I wasn't being entirely serious, and I agree that the multi-page licence agreements full of legalese that you often see, are ridiculous. But I would hope that people do read (and abide by) my short and (I think) very reasonable licence agreement.

What is this software agreement of which you speak? In truth I only usually refer to them if I am going to do anything outside the 'norm' like reuse a bit of source code etc.

I never do. But I was curious about Cumulus LA, so I tracked it down (it's in the Help file BTW) and read it. Should I now go back and change my vote? ;)
