Cumulus displays latest gust, recent peak gust, and (average) wind speed.

I have my console set to gusts because the fine offset gusts does in fact better reflect actual wind speed. If you search the forum you will find others have debated this topic. Check it for yourself, you might agree that wind speed for the FO is much lower than that reported by better quality equipment sites close to you. The FO range is very good value but does have limitations, wind direction, rainfall are other examples.

Which figure is it that you can see on the console that you can't see in Cumulus? The console displays two wind speeds, Cumulus displays three. In the default configuration, two of the Cumulus wind speeds are the same as the two console wind speeds. But this is all explained in the FAQs, so I think you must have some sort of problem with your station?

Cumulus shows (latest) gust, (peak) gust and wind speed. It doesn't know or care what your console is currently displaying, it always displays those three figures, updated every 40 to 50 seconds, just after the console itself updates. It will always show the gust and the wind speed from the station. As it says in the FAQ:

"In short, with default settings, console 'Wind' = Cumulus 'Average', and console 'Gust' = Cumulus 'Latest'."

The gauge shows the three wind speeds. The pointer shows the "latest" figure (the console "gust" figure in the case of Fine Offset stations), the green sector shows the "average" figure (in the default configuration this is the console "wind" figure in the case of Fine Offset stations) and the red sector shows the recent peak gust.

Mine too reads lower than the airports, but I think we might have to put it down to installation and location. I actually took my unit for a ride in the car  I'm sure onlookers thought I was wierd. But I cruzed down the road for 2 min at 90 km/hr. The first run had wind at 76kmhr then on the run back it registered 97km/hr with gusts to 107. These were all measured on the unit only. So I guess if you average out the two runs using wind speed then it was 4% under. At the time of the run we get 0-4kmph wind. But at 90kmph this wind, I would take, would be neglible. The placement of the wind metre was only 40cm outside the car, I would have liked it further but I was trying to be stealthy!
