Need help, (newbie here)

Post by Vanilla Sky »

Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help me, I think I've found the right place after searching the net for like, ever! I run a windsurfing school, and seriously need to have a weather section for live updates on costal spots around Australia. Mostly wind, direction & speed. (current and forecasts), and with temp, rain, and possibly tides.

Everything the windsurfer needs to know, it looks like Cumulus can helpme with this. I don't have a weather station but I can get free data from BOM (australian bureau of meteorology).

I've played with the software (settings etc) tried an internet update etc. But I need a bit advice, firstly I need to know how to pull down the data from BOM (IE this link: ftp://ftp2.bom.gov.au/anon/gen/fwo/ ) into Cumulus.

If I can just retrieve the data, then I can try figure out how to configure to update it on my site.

Appreciate any advice,

Thanks guys! :):)

Cumulus is software for reading and presenting data from personal weather stations; it doesn't read data from web sites. You need some other solution, but it's possible that someone here can help you with that.

Ok, bummer... what if I have an ftp link to a website with data files?

The link I posted above has a list of .dat files... do I still need a station? Or can I download the .dat files and then import them into Cumulus??

Thanks mate,

Nick

If you can convert the data into Cumulus data files (the formats are in the wiki) then you would be able to use the charting etc functions in Cumulus on them. You wouldn't get any live data displayed. It seems to me like the completely wrong approach for what you want.
