Cumulus Remote installation using data folder syncronization

Post by b.e.wilson »

I have Cumulus 1.9.2 1009 running at home. To make sure I never lose the data, I use Windows Live Mesh to sync the data folder to several locations, one being my desktop at work.

It would be fun to run Cumulus at work, so that when the data file is updates at home, I see the new data appear on my work Cumulus installation. Before I try it and possibly mess up my data folder, does anyone know if this will work? Will Cumulus, lacking a weather station connection, instead read (and constantly be updated by) a synced data folder?

It won't update 'live' data, that can only be updated by being read from a weather station. Only functions that read the data logs, such as 'select-a-graph' will work. Even things like highs and lows won't update as they too depend on being updated by live data.

Thanks, Steve. I'll just use the great website updated views, then.

Another possibility... Get the 'primary' Cumulus to create an EasyWeather file, then use this as the input to the secondary copy of Cumulus.

The EW file format (as far as I can tell) is...

Code: Select all

0,0,0,<#date>,<#time>,0,<#inhum>,<#intemp>,<#hum>,<#temp>,<#dew>,<#wchill>,0,<#press>,<#wspeed>,0,<#wgust>,0,0,<#currentwdir>,0,0,0,<#rhour>,0,0,0,<#ryear>
Two problems, the <#currentwdir> does not quite match the EW format, and the rainfall counter will reset every year.

hi Bruce.

Have a look at Team Viewer 6.

I access my home setup from anywhere in the world over the net.

Works really well and is FREE.

Its not the onlyu software but i have found it easy to use and very reliable.

I can see my Cumulus display live but can also access the station PC for resets or file transfers
