This turns up in my Yawcam console:
Code: Select all
[23:36] GET: /realtime.txt?q=1229904087169
[23:36] Error 404
I'm using Yawcam to host my website and have the realtime.txt file that get's updated, but my realtime gauges don't work iether.
Also, I'm trying to get my favicon.ico to work. But doesn't (in my network atleast). I've got this in the head:
Code: Select all
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" />
Any idea's guys?

both these files (realtime.txt and favicon.ico) need to be in the root of your web server as you have not specified a specific location
I'm guessing they are not
Do you have a web address we can look at, or is it an internal network only?

I found the link to your site, I think...
http://palmerston-weather.no-ip.org:8888/
Your files are indeed in the root of the server. I can see your ico and txt file, and I get the ico as the favicon (but not using IE). The ico file seems corrupt to me as I can not view it directly in a browser
Are you self hosting, given the port of 8888 on the URL?

David, what is the current IP address of the site - I have never been able to get DNS to resolve it

?q=1229904087169 isn't valid (produces the 404)

I don't understand that bit !
Why would YAWCAM import realtime.txt ?
If you want to overlay info on a pic, then you use cumulus to produce a file in YAWCAM format.

Currently
http://124.182.231.160:8888
He must only be allowing port 8888 through the firewall to an internal web server

That's right. Yawcam allows people to view a http snapshot of the webcam through the www folder under yawcam. I put all the cumulus website in that folder so that instead of advertising/promoting the port address for a webcam shot I am using it as my website address. As it always changes, being a dynamic address, I use No-Ip.com to make up my permanent url as
http://palmerston-weather.no-ip.org:8888 . It's in the signature if you click on the WU sticker. I thought that was easy enough.

Your right, Yawcam doesn't import the realtime.txt, but rather it displays in the console what Yawcam is doing (whether it's a FTP upload, or someones is viewing your cam stream etc.) So when people visit my website, through Yawcam's www folder, it displays all the files that are required to run that specific page. eg:
Code: Select all
[12:52] GET: /index.html
[12:52] GET: /Alarm/current_conditions.JPG
[12:52] GET: /weatherstyle.css
[12:52] GET: /Alarm/temp_10101.jpg
[12:52] GET: /Alarm/storm_1100.jpg
[12:52] GET: /Alarm/pressure_0100.jpg
[12:52] GET: /Alarm/wind_1F3.jpg
[12:52] GET: /images/cam1.jpg
[12:52] GET: /Alarm/rain_hipress0.JPG
[12:52] GET: /out.jpg
[12:52] GET: /images/moon.bmp
[12:53] GET: /images/record_1.gif
[12:53] GET: /favicon.ico
But now and again it comes up for a request for the
Code: Select all
[23:36] GET: /realtime.txt?q=1229904087169
[23:36] Error 404
So I was wondering, if it was something on my website calling for this. My guess now is that it's not. I'll have to put it down to robots, although when they scroll my site, they view everything, including the robots.txt file I've put in for them.
So the other thing is the Favicon.ico. I made a 16x16 .jpg file and then changed the .jpg to .ico . I remember a couple of years back that this is how you do it. Am I wrong? How do you make one for your website?

That will be the Flash realtime gauges. I don't know whether it's the fact that your server isn't on the default port, or the 'cache defeating' code (the ?q=...) or both, but I think the realtime gauges aren't going to work with your setup.

You can't just rename a .jpg to .ico, the files have different formats. You have to use software to convert between the formats. There's an online one here:

Thanks Steve, I have downloaded proper icons in .ico format and it works sweet. Cheers.
