"you get what you pay for"...with that said, there is one listed in the Wiki altho I don't use it and don't remember anyone mentioning it, good or bad. There are also a couple of other's listed that seem to be reasonably priced...zecrich wrote:Hi all,
I really want to get my station on the web, can anyone remember a good free hosting site?

Does your ISP supply a personal web area? If not another option is to install a web server on your weather station PC.

Re: Clueless!
I won't recommend http://www.000webhost.com . But in the beggining that's what I went with. At first it will suit your needs, but here are some problems.
1. It won't support .txt files. This is a problem if you want the realtime gauges to work. That didn't bother me so much.
2. The host seems to be listed by virus protection software (McAffee) as a bad site, thus my site was also listed as such, this was annoying. Any one visiting your site will see that it's bad. Or maybe it was just mine?
3. For the above reason, I could not forward/list my website on Facebook.
4. In the end they cancelled my free site. I don't know why, maybe because it had pictures of girls on it, or maybe because they don't like weather sites being used, as I do know that some sites don't allow hosting of weather sites due to the constant uploads.
What did I do next? Well I have Yawcam, and figuring that it allows people to view your pictures over the internet through a certain file, I just transfered all my Cumulus files to the yawcam folder and host my own website there. Apparantly there are programmes you can download so that you can host on your own computer, but what I did was just too easy! Oh, I hardly have people visit my site, so bandwidth wasn't an issue.

Re: Clueless!
Sky do not offer any free web space
Talk Talk do, but you need to activate it...http://help.talktalk.co.uk/app/answers/detail/a_id/1429
If you do start using the Talk Talk space then move to Sky you will no longer have access to the Talk Talk space

Re: Clueless!
On reflection I wonder if it might be better to invest a very small amount of cash in order to get a website up and running.
To establish your own space you need two things -- a domain name (web address) and some web space. You are in the UK I think so a .co.uk name is cheaper than any other. A .co.uk will cost you ~£7 for two years. I know of a hosting firm who will charge you $10 (~£6) per year for web space to host the site. Therefore overall your costs for two years would be around £20.
I would be more than happy to do all the setup for you; send you three entries to change in Cumulus and you will have a website.

Re: Clueless!
That sounds more than reasonable (a steal even). The beauty of going down this path is you can change ISP's till the cows come home and your website is safe.daj wrote: Therefore overall your costs for two years would be around £20.
