Periodic data moved to a different server

Post by b.e.wilson »

I am part of a project to present the weather data from the Capitol Reef Field Station, in southern Utah, using the data obtained by the Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station running there. Currently WeatherLink is running, and the periodic updates are moving a great deal of data at a time. This is a problem, because it's moving over a satellite internet connection.

I'm looking for a way to run Cumulus, so that much smaller data files need to be moved. Data is moved by FTPing into the host computer and grabbing the data file set every nn minutes (I don't know the exact interval). I was thinking that we could copy the realtime.txt file over to the every nn minutes, but this method might lose some data. Just to be sure, can I set Cumulus to create the realtime.txt file, but not do anything with it, just leave it in the data directory? Or must it be sent someplace?

Yes, if you tick "Enable Realtime" but don't tick "Enable realtime ftp" and "Realtime.txt FTP" it will just create the file.
