Rain Calibration

Post by geoffp »

Just as a matter of interest I recently thought that the rain bucket on my WH 3080 was measuring high, I managed to get hold of a 5" copper rain gauge and I thought that I would do a comparison check.

Last night was great for the test, it started raining at about 1630, over the course of the evening and night my WH3080 measured 18mm of rain, the rain gauge measuring jug had 17mm of rain in it, is it worth trying to offset the WH3080 for 1mm as I would not have a clue what the multiplier would be for that small amount
Regards,

Geoff

It would be a multiplier of about 0.94. Myself, I think I'd be happy with that level of accuracy and not bother with the multiplier, as it would give you odd values - e.g. one tip would be 0.28 mm.

Thanks Steve, I was thinking along the lines of leaving it, but I am well pleased with how accurate that side of the station is, I borrowed a calibrated thermometer from a local laboratory and checked the temp. side and the outside temp was .6 to high so all in all I am well happy :D

Geoff
