Re: Microsft LifeCam Cinema & YAWCAM problem - help please

hmm. I've been having problems with the stability of YAWCAM recently.

Sometimes when I look on my server I notice that the preview window
has stopped displaying an image and shows a black screen with
the words "No Device Selected" which seems odd as it had been displaying
an image before and I had done nothing to it :?

Then when I try to select my Microsoft life cam and set the image to
800 x 448 resolution it wont let me do it!

I have noticed that the Microsoft life cam icon in the system tray has also vanished,
shown below (when it was working correctly).

So I am now wondering if YAWCAM automatically starts this up when it loads up.
And somehow it must error or unload it's self (microsoft life cam dashboard) which in
turn messes up YAWCAM.

Does anyone know if this Microsoft life cam dashboard need to be run along with YAWCAM
to have it all work correctly? And if so any ideas why it would unload it's self ?

I have noticed that when the MS Life Cam Dashboard is not running YAWCAM will not let
me select any other resolution other than 640 x 480.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use a Microsoft LifeCam HD and Yawcam with Windows XP Pro SP3 and all updates installed. Apart from the following circumstances it has been working faultlessly for a year or two, maybe more.

1. Occasionally Windows will do an automatic update and restart itself and since I haven't as yet set up Yawcam to start automatically, it doesn't and I do it manually.
2. My ISP changes my IP occasionally and my web hosting security assumes it's a fraudulent access and bars FTP access, that causes Yawcam to give an FTP login error (as expected). So I have to go into my web hosting control panel and reset my IP to it's new value.
3. Power cuts - I'm not running the webcam computer off the UPS.
4. Computer failure.

I have a schedule set up to upload images only during daylight hours. Same for saving images to file. Yawcam uploads every 20 seconds - the computer won't handle anything faster. The resolution is set at maximum of 1280x800.

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

hmm I am now starting to get a new problem. :(

I have had two webcam's running in two seperate instances of YAWCAM fine for about a week, but over the past two days the MS Lifecam YAWCAM instance keeps throwing up an error that it can't log onto my FTP site. It displays the window with my username and password, which I keep clicking for it to save and then the [OK] button, but it won't let me log in.

If I close down that instance of YAWCAM and then start it up again, all is well and it logs in and works correctly untill then next morning then it has the same problem.

FYI.
I have another instance of YAWCAM running with my Playstation Eye cam hooked up which uses the same login info and ftp space on my hosted server and that has no problems and runs OK even when the other MS Lifecam throws this error!

Both the settings I have set up are identically so I am a bit stumped as to why one works and the other keeps throwing up this FTP login error.

Does anyone have any ideas why this could be?
