When I got back home I noticed that we had had a power
cut, so I am hopeing that the power cut was to blame for
my webcam going offline.

I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it.

How has your camera been performing?

I replaced my USB extension but still had the problem re-occur, but then connected it to a powered hub rather than directly to the USB on the PC and so far so good - fingers crossed!!

I have the same setup and recently had disconnections from the webcam. For me the problem was heat related, when the sun was shining on the webcam it would disconnect. I returned the camera and got a replacement which has now been OK for the last month. It's probably a completely different issue but I thought I would mention it just in case.

I have been having problems with the webcam access going offline but it is now quite stable and not a problem after I turned off the settings in Yawcam under connection for detect IP at startup. This stopped me getting the error message to do with "can't find IP". I also turned off "check for new version" so I am not sure which of these settings made yawcam stable.
I do have a fixed IP address so it may not work on dynamic IP's

Hi Sorry ive taken a while to reply, just been busy with a few things.

My camera seems to be working fine now so fingers crossed it was
just the power cut that caused the problem :)

I have also done as you have Super-T
I turned off the settings in Yawcam under connection for detect IP at startup
and turned this setting of in YawCam too, as mine kept coming up with the same message on startup.

When using Yawcam on Windows XP I show that yawcam is using around 1/3 cpu time. Can someone else check to see what yawcam is using on their system?
Process using the excess is javaw.exe.

Mine uses 1-4% idle. When taking 15 consecutive motion shots it goes to 50% for about 5 seconds.

Attached shows 25% at the time I took the shot.
Same sort of result in Windows 7.
Perhaps I have changed settings that affect this.

I removed and replaced yawcam in the xp computer and windows 7.
Result was no change in the XP computer....still up around 25%, but the windows 7 computer shows 5% and is 86.844K in size.

Java has also been re-installed.

A question to yawcam users. Does your Yawcam keep ftp-ing for any length of time?
My present problem is that after starting yawcam, it will ftp 2 or 3 times and then give up. It used to go for half a day before giving up but has got worse.
I've changed where I upload to so it is not likely to be an ISP problem and in fact it is set to upload to the same directories that Cumulus uploads to. Cumulus is working fine.
I've tried all sorts of settings in Yawcam FTP to no avail.
I also get "FTP Error: Client not connected" at times when it fails.
More research tomorrow to see if I can narrow it down a bit but feedback from users would be appreciated :-)

Hi,

I also noticed last night that I was getting the FTP log-in error for username and password.

I thought it was a problem with my Hosting service, until I logged onto my ftp site and
got onto it fine.

If I closed down YAWCAM and then started it up, it would upload about 2 images then stop
and throw up the username and password problem.

Very strange :?

OK...so that suggests it's not my setup but something to do with Yawcam.
I'll have a play with webcamXP and see how that goes.
I know it's a shot in the dark but haven't there been internet changes to do with IPv6 lately? I wonder if that is affecting some FTP modules?
