FTP Connect Timeout Error

My webpage is set to upload every 10 minutes and it has been working without any problems until relatively recently when I've started to get
FTP Connect Error, Error code = 530
FTP Connect Timeout

The page will update maybe once every hour at best but most of the time I get a list of error messages
The same thing happens if I force an update - sometimes it will work and other times I get a message saying
FTP Error: FTP Component already connected
Aborting
Connect Timeout

My realtime updates seem to go through ok most of the time and are set for every 15 secs

I've looked though all of the solutions suggested on the forum and tried them all

I've triple checked my ftp directory and password - its correct and in any case it was ll working perfectly 'til Sunday
I've disabled the firewall
I've tried using active ftp
I've tried with Auto Update on and off - same thing
I also re uploaded the website from scratch in a moment of desperation!

I looked at the realtimeftp log and oddly enough, its an enormous file because it seems to be connecting every second, not every 15 seconds but I'm probably reading it incorrectly. It also doesn't appear to be trying to connect to the specified directory /www.galwaycityweather.com/web

I've attached the debug log and realtime ftp log and I'd be truly grateful for some help and advice - I know that I've probably messed up something somewhere along the line but its beyond my limited abilities to figure out what it is :(

Thanks

It's uploading every 15 seconds at the end of the realtime log (and looking at your web site confirms that it's uploading every 15 seconds); I assume the earlier entries are from a time when you had the realtime interval set to something other than 15 seconds. When you turn on ftp logging, it's a good idea to delete the log file from previous runs.

If the problem is with 'normal' uploads rather than 'realtime' uploads, then the ftplog.txt file is going to be the one with the useful information. But it sounds like a problem with your server not being able to accept logins, and Cumulus is simply reporting the 530 error code returned from the server; realtime ftp stays logged in so wouldn't hit the problem.

Thanks Steve

I think I've attached the correct log this time.

Like I said, this problem seems to have started on Sunday after months of troublefree uploading and its intermittent, sometimes the uploads go without a hitch but mostly not. Its set to upload every 10 mins but only 2 an hour actually go through.

The server is refusing your login:

17:37:03:031 FTP Response: 530 Login incorrect.
17:37:03:031 >|530 Login incorrect.|

17:37:03:031 FTP Connect Error, Error code = 530

Clearly you have your details correct because it does work some of the time, so it's a problem at the server end.

Check the server anti-spam settings. Too many logins/time from a single IP address can trigger a refusal.

Thanks for the help and suggestions - very much appreciated
I still haven't managed to resolve this but I'll post an update if I do.

What does your web space provider say about the problem?

I opened a ticket with them yesterday Steve but haven't had a response yet. The good news is that I haven't had an FTP Connect Timeout Error for over 18hrs :)

Thanks again for taking the time to look over my logs for me

It sounds like they had some sort of temporary problem. They won't admit it, of course
