WS-1080 Data Logging Rate

Post by ajlaird »

I have been using the Ambient Weather WS-1080 for over a year now.
I have noticed that the internal data logger only logs once every 5 minutes unless the USB cable is plugged in (in which case it reads whatever I have set Cumulus to).

Has anyone found a way to force the station to log more frequently even without the USB cable plugged in?

Thanks

You would have to somehow replace the firmware. The station writes data to the 'current' memory location every 48 seconds, and then after the configured interval (e.g. five minutes), it starts writing to the next memory location instead, leaving the previous entry behind in whatever state it was in at that point, so that its contents can be downloaded later if required. It does this regardless of whether the USB cable is plugged in or not.

Ah - so the only way Cumulus knows what happened between those 5 minute intervals if the USB was plugged in was because it reads each update as the base unit gets it and saves it to the laptop's hard drive.

That makes sense.
I doubt there's a firmware update, so my solution is to keep the laptop plugged in.

Thanks for the response Steve.
