Problem uploading to WOW

I'm running Cumulus 1.9.2 build 1005 on Windows XP

I'm not sure if this is a bug or feature request, but I had a problem uploading to the met office WOW site. My computer had a network problem that meant cumulus couldn't connect to the network. It was left like this most of the day before I realised. Having fixed the network, cumulus then uploaded the next time slot of data, but didn't upload any of the data it had missed.

Having done an upload, restarting cumulus didn't cause it to do a catch-up. So I now have a "hole" in my data.

So I guess the first question is why didn't cumulus detect the network failure or if it did, why didn't it do a "catch up" when the network was restored.

And second, it would be nice to have a button to upload data "by hand" between specified dates and times. So you could fix problems like this. (Unless I've missed the already existing button)

Thanks for any help

Andy

Hi Andy,

Data from Cumulus can be uploaded anytime by right clicking on the icon in the task bar and selecting update website and also from the file menu when the Cumulus screen is open.

It currently only catches up with data from the logger, not from missed entries due to network problems. It doesn't have any mechanism for saving failed updates and retrying them later. Perhaps one day I'll have the time to add this.

You can upload data manually on the WOW site, but I agree it would be easier if Cumulus had the ability to upload any data from its logs at any time. Perhaps one day I'll have the time to add this.

I guessed it would be something like that :( Something to remember the time of the last good post and then read the data files to send the missed posts would be good. You can add it to your ever increasing list of new features :)

I've uploaded data by hand before. It isn't easy. Although I think this time it would be more difficult finding the data. Maybe if it printed the failed post to the log, I could cut and paste them to a file and make things easier.

Thanks for the reply and your help

Yes, I did think about doing this as a quick improvement, so that they could be manually entered; or writing them to a separate file, which would be part of the full enhancement anyway, if I ever do it.
