Faulty WH3081 base station? Please help if possible

Post by Guym44 »

Hi all,
I bought and installed a Pro Solar Wireless Weather Station WH3081 over the wekend. The base station when not connected to a pc via USB works perfectly, however when I connect it to the USB port of my pc, the base station resets itself continuously every 140 seconds approximately, and it beeps each time. Then it collects data from the external sensors again, then after 140 seconds, it resets itself again and will keep doing this. I have tested it on 3 computers (2 desktops and one laptop) and exactly the same thing happens, so it is definitely not the computer that it is connected to that is causing the problem.

The good thing is that despite this Cumulus is updated correctly and my data seems to flow to Wunderground without any issues. The constant resetting and beeps are however very annoying. The australian e-bay seller offered A$40 discount on the unit which cost me A$79, so I could just go away, however I would far prefer a 100% working unit and no beeps.

There is no manufacturer support via the net (I am expecting too much, I think).

Has anyone experienced the same issue, and if so, is there a way to solve this? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Cheers

Sounds like you might have a dud, Guy, but before you scrap it, make sure the USB sockets aren't damaged and try another USB cable, just in case.
I'm wondering if it might be a voltage problem.

cheers,

Graeme.

Two weeks ago ( September 2012) I purchased a WH3081, and when connecting the base station via USB to my computer, the base station resets to the factory defaults every couple of minutes. I note that you had a similar problem. Do you have a solution?

Cheers

The OP hasn't been back to report what happened, so I think that all you can do is follow Graeme's suggestion, and/or return it to the retailer.

I am now really wary of the WH-3081, not only after my bad experience, but the number of others who've had trouble, combined with the price reduction of this unit over the past 9 or 10 months. It can now be bought in Aus. on ebay for as little as $84 buy-it-now with free shipping, where the much older WH-1081 still sells for over $100 plus shipping.

I may stand corrected on this, but I am just a tad suspicious of FO getting rid of them rather than fix the problems.
Cheers,
Graeme.
