Cumulus Support

I have just set up my WH 3080 and I have just a couple of questions, everything seems to be uploading to cumulus ok.

1, Do I have to set up anything in the Cumulus settings pages?

2, I am getting a reading of 200K lux giving me 158 W/m2 this seems a bit low or is it just my immagination?

The only settings I can think of that you might want to play with are the solar settings on the station settings screen, so that you can adjust the detection of whether it's currently sunny or not. It's quite tricky, even with a Davis station that gives W/m2, but it's even more so with the WH3080 which only gives Lux. The other related setting you might want to adjust is the LuxToWM2 setting in cumulus.ini to alter the conversion factor of Lux to W/m2 if you think the default isn't working well; it's all a bit 'finger in the air'.

200k Lux would give you 1580 W/m2 in Cumulus. Are you sure it wasn't reading 20k? 158 W/m2 is quite low, but weather reports on the web suggest that it's overcast there, so that seems reasonable.

Thanks Steve, I think the solar side of things are a bit iffy, I now have 40526.5 Lux with 320 W/m2 and a UV of 6 I am sure the true UV is not 6, Met office is foreccasting 2 UV for this area

Seems like a common problem Steve, I just tried putting a -4 in thr Cumulus callibration UV position but it did not seem to make any difference, am I using the right approach

Looking at the code it's hard to see how it could not work. Unless your transmitter was sending the 255 value meaning 'contact lost', in which case the display wouldn't update.

Actually, looking properly at the code, it's quite obvious why it doesn't work

It will be logging the modified value, and the web tag should be OK, but it updates the display with the unmodified value. I'll fix it in the next build - sorry.

No problem Steve, I thought it was a bit strange, have spoken to Martin at Signatrol and he told me to keep an eye on the high UV readings, he will change the UV sensor for me if it persists.

No, only Davis stations provide that.

Shame that, wonder what the formula is, when I was using that other software from weather watch I was getting ET with using my Oregon WMR200

I know its something to do with Precipitation, W/m2, Wind and Temperature but not sure of the actual formula.

The Davis calculation uses air temperature, wind speed, solar radiation, humidity, and pressure. It's described in this document: http://www.davisnet.com/product_documen ... iables.pdf

Well, after running the WH 3080 for a week plus now it seems that there is definately a problem with the U.V side of the station, Martin from Signatrol kindly supplied me with a replacement Solar sensor and transmitter but I am still getting U.V readings between 1 and 14 for UV when the local forecast is about 2.

I had problems with the station not being found, I replaced the USB cable and fingers crossed I hope that has been sorted.

Every now and then I get an error stating that the "Sensors" cannot be found but that cures itself after a while.

All in all I like the WH 3080 but I think the makers have to look into the UV side of things.

Do you or someone else have find any solution for the sensor error (Lost sensor contact!!!)?

I'll have the same problem and it come and goes.
Some times it runs for 24h and some times the problem shows up many times per day.

The UV sensor is it really a UV sensor, my guess is that only messure how much te sun is shining and then it try's to calulate the UV radiation.
But it's only my guess.

Just wonder how many here owns a WH3080/3081 and have some kind of sensor error?

I get lost sensor errors as well sometimes no errors for days but then several on one day the unit is only about 20ft apart.
