A few weeks a go I installed Cumulus on my new Windows 7 64 bit system transferring my data, web and cumulus.ini files across from my old XP computer. I neglected to read the information regarding Windows 7 users not to install under Program Files. I've actually not had any problems with my computer reading data from my Fine Offset WH1080 or uploading data to my website. Date formats are also correctly reported in my files and I have no problem finding my data files which are where I put them when I transferred them from my old computer.
So, have I been very lucky or should I uninstall and reinstall Cumulus into C:\Cumulus as recommended. I tend to operate along the lines, "if it's not broken, don't fix it". If I've not had problems so far, should I be OK?

Re: Cumulus installed in Program Files (x86) Windows 7
I changed the installer some time ago (in 1.9.1, I think) so it defaulted to C:\Cumulus (on new installs), to try to avoid this issue.
If it's working OK, and you know how to find your data files when you need them, you'll probably be OK leaving it as it is. As well as the 'hidden files' problem, some people seem to have permissions problems, but you seem to have avoided that. You'll need to make sure you always run Cumulus in the same way; if you set it to 'run as Administrator', for example, it will probably not be able to find its data files, because it will then be allowed to use the installation folder.
Edit: Actually, are you saying that you put your data files under Program Files, and it's using them OK in that location? That shouldn't be happening (unless you have set it to run as Administrator)

Yes it is reading the data file fine in Program Files (x86). I can't remember setting it to run as administrator, would that have be the default setting when installing? (I'm running from a Windows administrator account).

No, the installer doesn't do that, if it's set you would have to have done that yourself. It's definitely writing to the data files under Program Files?nikkikrish wrote:Yes it is reading the data file fine in Program Files (x86). Yes, it is writing to the data files in Program Files(x86). I've checked several files which all show date modified as today's date eg Jul11log, alltimelog etc and they all have fresh data in them.

I guess the best thing to do then is to leave it as it is. If anything strange does start happening, you'll know what to look at first!

Yes and then I can rap myself on the knuckles for not following the instructions in the first place
Many thanks for a great program (small donation just made).
