My Weather Time Display

Post by CountryGuy »

Hi all

I'm a new Cumulus user running on Windows XP and using a WeatherWise station linked to Weather Underground. No issues with anything other than the display of the Sun Rise, Dawn and other times indicated in the same area of the "My Weather" Display. The actual time of day is correct for the Time Zone but all things running on the 24 hour time clock are off. I don't seem to find anything in Configurations that allows me to set the correct time for a 24 hour clock display in those areas. Is this a common bug or am I suffering from a case of the "stupids?" HELP!

You probably haven't set your co-ordinates correctly (or at all) in the station settings. It needs your location in order to be able to calculate sunrise/sunset times etc.

No that isn't the problem. Longitude and Latitude are correct for the physical location. To put into exact perspective as I write this post it is 9:40 am Central Daylight time. The My Weather Console is showing Sun Rise at 17:41, Dawn at 17:14. The Sunset and Dusk displays are also off as I assume the Moon times are also.

Steve: Correction, the Longitude and Latitude were not 100% correct. I had failed to indicate Latitude setting as being "W." Little wonder the times didn't make any sense. Dawning Dunce Cap!

No problem, easily done ;)

I should put in a snazzy 'find your location' using Google Maps or similar...

That would be a neat feature for anyone not having a GPS or are unable to find their location online with some government mapping system. I will caution that Google Maps verses physical road locations in the U.S. are off for some reason. For example Weather Underground's WunderMap Displays the physical location of my station about a mile East of the actual location. I have found this to be the case with Google Maps with other locations which leads me to believe that Google is not updating to accommodate the variations from Earth axis wobble on the same basis as GPS systems do.
