Console to computer USB cord...

Post by Gulfcoast »

The USB cord on my WS-2080 rig is very short. I'd like to use a longer cord to get the console away from the computer, and place it near the window for a line-of-sight view to the outdoor transmitter.

Do you think a longer cord (10' or 3.048 m) would cause any connection problems?

Thanks :)

That length shouldn't be a problem, with a good quality cable.

Bought a new 15' cable today and moved the receiver by the window for a straight line of sight to the transmitter. It works perfect...

eBay has them at good prices, but I bought mine at a local computer store.

Maplins, sell the connectors for a couple of pounds each, so with a bit of cable in between, its not beyond any one who knows how to use a soldering iron to make a lead up. Depending on the current draw depends on the Lead length limit. Some time I'll experiment and see what length we can get too..

I had to renew my cable, but I think that mine had some sort of fault on, I kept getting error messages like fine offset not found, after renewing cable I have not had anymore problems :D
