could anyone help with a computer problem involving issues with administrator permissions and weatherlink?
My hard-drive recently blew up and now have it back running with windows7 and when I try to save files/attachments (website index pages) into my stations folder within Weatherlink, (to then upload to my hosting company) - I can't.
The reason given is that I do not have the correct permissions and need to get them from the administrator - BUT I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR!
i have solved problems sucg as notepad not being the default browser in IE8+9 and not been able to open my web pages (needed unzipping) but this is beating me.
paul Crabtree, one of my sources for computer info' is on holiday and when he gets back I'm away for a week, so frustration abounds.
any help greatly apprciated

Re: ADMINISTRATOR PERMISIONS - PROBLEMS
are you trying to save under the c:\program files structure?
It's always better to try and avoid installed apps to this location if you also need to save files into it at a later date (i.e. data files).
You can right click over the folder, click properties then the security tab. Select your name and you will see what permissions you have. You want Full control ticked and no ticks under the Deny column. Use Edit if you need to change them

Re: ADMINISTRATOR PERMISIONS - PROBLEMS
my file/website index page is actually saved as an attachment on an e-mail - that is how it was originally sent to me.
basically i used to select 'other options' and go via the c computer, programmes way to get to the correct folder within Weatherlink - and then it doesn't allow me to save anything in there.
But this was the way i always used to do it before my computer crashed.
Re right click+properties (i use the right click and 'view source' which brings up notepad, to amend the pages as i require) - it shows me has having full control.
when i right click on the file it does not bring up 'properties' as an option - it does if i save it to documents though (but then it doesn't open the file up) as it does as an e-mail attachment!!!
as an attachment on an e-mail, once i open the file/web page up it opens my web page up in IE and when i right click at this point 'properties' is an option but it does not include security as an option to view.

Darren
I think you have almost lost me on this one! Certainly, you should save the files somewhere and work on them rather than keep them in your email.
I think what you are saying is you would save the file attachment from the email into the weatherlink folder. So you need to check (going through My Computer) that you have enough permissions to the folder (by right clicking on the weatherlink folder)

Re: ADMINISTRATOR PERMISIONS - PROBLEMS
you have actually helped me - many thanks.
accessing Weatherlink via 'my computer' and right click/select properties allows me to edit my permissions - if you do a right click on the shortcut whilst you can get to the same place, you can't edit your permissions.
also bizarrely going to properties via the shortcut shows that i had full permissions - but going there via my computer and i didn't have full permissions!!!!
so much trial and error and so much frustration.
you are probably right that i should do my editing somewhere other than an attachment to an e-mail - but the old adage is, if you don't know what your doing but it works...............
many thanks anyway - problem resolved.
just have to get my hosting company pointing everything in the right place now and i'm back on the web.
