editor doesn't store changed values ??

Hello everybody,
I'm a newbe and experimenting with Cumulus (v 1.9.1-b989 ) since a week with my Fine Offset 1080. Today I got some erroneous rain values, which I tried tro correct with the editor. (I've read the FAQ "My station invented some rain etc", but can't find a solution to my editor problem). I'm trying to restore the previous ( = yesterdays situation) high rain values. I copied the previous high values in the editor from the dayfile data (high daily rain, high rain rate and high hourly rain), however the 'high daily rain' value remains the same as before after storing and opening the editor again. ( in all 3 files, monthly, yearly, alltime). The other two values have changed as requested to the previous high values. What am I missing ? Do I have to manually change some other files/values ?

The only way that I can see that would happen would be if your rain total for today was still the highest value, so it would immediately replace the value that you've set with the editor. Have you actually corrected today's total - what value is Cumulus showing?

Hello Steve, Thx for the - very - quick reply!
"if your rain total for today was still the highest value"> no rain today, value showing 537 mm (!)
"Have you actually corrected today's total" > I adapted today.ini >

This is the important bit for today's total. Set it to your current counter (with Cumulus stopped), as described in the FAQ. If you can't work out how to get your current counter, paste the last line of your June log file here, and I'll point it out.

Version 1.9.2 makes this a bit easier.

This is where it went wrong (jun11log.txt)
24-06-11;09:05;19,0;57;10,0;4,0;4,8;356;0,0;0,0;1020,2;60,9;23,2;48;4,0;19,0;19,0;0,0;0;0,00;0,00;16,3;433;0,0
24-06-11;09:10;17,3;62;9,7;3,7;5,4;9;6443,9;537,6;1020,2;598,5;23,1;48;2,8;17,0;17,3;0,0;0;0,00;0,00;14,7;447;0,0 << bird strike
24-06-11;09:15;18,2;61;10,3;3,0;5,4;7;0,0;537,6;1020,3;598,5;23,1;48;2,8;18,2;18,2;0,0;0;0,00;0,00;16,3;461;0,0

24-06-11;19:15;16,1;59;7,8;3,6;6,2;334;0,0;537,6;1023,1;598,5;22,5;45;0,6;15,6;16,1;0,0;0;0,00;0,00;13,1;288;0,0 most recent entry

So next changes would do ?
1) in today.ini Start=598,5
2) change the last line in jun11log.txt to
24-06-11;19:15;16,1;59;7,8;3,6;6,2;334;0,0;0,0;1023,1;598,5;22,5;45;0,6;15,6;16,1;0,0;0;0,00;0,00;13,1;288;0,0

should I set total rainfall today in all the other lines also to zero ?

Yes, to all of those. Changing all of the 'rainfall today' figures isn't essential, but it does correct your data and looks better on your graphs. Once you've corrected today's total, you should be able to change the all-time (etc) records.

How did you get the extra rainfall, by the way? Moving the rain gauge? Or did the station just decide to add the extra - it does look like it's increased permanently rather than being a temporary glitch.

OK, thanks. What should I change in the alltime etc .ini's? Can I change the in the first post mentioned 3 values in the editor or should I do it manually ( and if so, what values?)

As far as I can see it is a one-time-glitch at 9:10 am. ( rainfall rate 6443,9 mm/hr !!) I wasn't at home, but I suspect the birds in my garden caused it by moving the rainsensor. The station is on a wooden pole, where sometimes birds land on. Maybe I should move it....

Once you've corrected today's total, you can use the editor as you did before and get it to retrieve the correct values from dayfile.txt.

That's a lot of tips in a short period of time, so I suspect it probably wasn't due to the rain gauge physically moving, more likely down to a corruption of the counter in the sensor caused by who knows what.

Changed the values in jun11log.txt with find/replace and then used the editor for the adapting the rain values in the .ini files.
Everything looks fine now.
Thanks again, D.
