What's the practicle length I can extend the cables going into the transmitter unit? I'd like to mount my homemade sun-sheilded transmitter down near the ground but keep the other bits up on my roof. I'd say it's 20-25 feet (6-7 m?).
Also, this will keep the unit away from my 2 meter ham radio antenna
I can make up custom cables and connectors - no issue. I have miles of bulk flat silver satin cable from Radio Shack.

I've extended my cables by 10m without a problem, apart from an increased occurrence of temperature spikes somehow caused by the longer wind instrument cable. You'd want to use twisted pair cable at least, and then use Cumulus's spike removal settings to nail the worst of the remaining ones.

I've been testing my 2meter HAM radio antenna with my FO station for a few days now. Have the radio working at 5 watts, transmitting every few minutes (APRS station). So far no spikes or other signs of interference. The weather station will be in close proximity to this antenna on final install and advice I received here and at some HAM sites was to test it on the ground fist. I've just run 15 meters for both the wind and rain conectors. I was getting spikes of 1-3c, but have used the spike removal today. Seems to be working well.

I''me extending mine about 25 feet to a fan aspirated screen on the shady side of the house. Using twisted pair Cat 5 cable.
