Idea/Request re Dayfile

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I noticed that there were a load of new fields added to dayfile.txt with the latest stable release of cumulus - this is really cool for me as we use dayfile.txt as a datasource for a spreadsheet and also live data on our website, etc... however...

I was wondering if it is possible to add mean daily wind (not just the 10 minute high) to dayfile.txt? That would be really useful to us!

Kindest regards from someone just finding their way round cumulus!

"mean daily wind"

There are different 'kinds' of mean - but surely what you want is the same as Windrun / 24 ?

Yes, if you want the average wind speed over the whole day, then as beteljuice says, that's effectively what the wind run is. If you have a wind run of 240 miles, that means the wind 'travelled' 240 miles in 24 hours, so your mean wind speed for the day was 10 mph.

Fantastic - I really hadn't thought of that  Makes perfect sense though - I just hadn't engaged any lateral thinking!

For anyone that wants to take a look, this is what I did with the wind average - it's just a modification of dayfile.php to display the values we want and give a csv output so we can import into a spreadsheet for graphing: http://weather.trigonos.org/cumulus/dayfile.php

Thanks for your helpful replies:)
