Regarding "rain" versus "precipitation" -- Unfortunately we do get the non-liquid version here on a rather frequent basis, so "precipitation" is a better choice.

I'm changing the text to "Exceptionally" as that makes sense.

I always understood that the Zambretti method was really only valid for mid latitude western Europe?
I can see maybe stretching to other mid latitude western continental areas, and southern hemisphere eastern continental areas. But are the assumptions it is based on valid for other regions?

Yet another example of the many nuances of software available on the "WorldWideWeb".mcrossley wrote:I always understood that the Zambretti method was really only valid for mid latitude western Europe?

Many thanks to Steve for adding the many requests from around the globe to his software.

Plenty of people using it now, with only the odd gripe. AFAIK East / West is not a consideration, only North / South where the wind directions and 'seasons' are reversed, and the 'range' facility should cope with 'where' North / South and local variations. The original was designed for the Northern Hemisphere and UK 'Weather Range'. ie. The nearer the Poles the greater the spread between lower and upper barometer levels and large 'trends' are needed for weather conditions change. Conversely, the nearer the Equator the smaller the 'spread' and smaller 'trends' for change.
Hopefully I have correctly re-written the algorithm to allow for any location, and I have also increased 'wind direction' to 16 points to make it compatable with most wx kit.
