can i get a 1080 to hook up to cumulus now and then, as opposed to 24/7?
will it download all the data stored in the console logger or will there be large gaps?
thanks in advance

I use a 1081 and just download the data as and when the PC is switched on, the only data loss I have had in the last two years was when I had to change the batteries and then only lost about 30 minutes worth due to taking time to get the base station to talk to the transmitter.

It's the same as with any station that has a logger, it will download the logger data when it starts up. I'm not really sure I see the point of just running Cumulus occasionally to download the logger data, though, you lose most of the advantages that Cumulus has over Easyweather.

brilliant.
I am about to purchase the station for use at home (we have a vue at work with weather display)
therefore I have no experience of easyweather nor cumulus.
my pc will not be running 24,7 nor will I need live data on the web, more just personal records.
are you saying easyweather will be enough?

I suppose it depends on what data you want logging and what you propose to do with it. When running mainly with logger data, EW has the advantage that it was written specifically to work with a Fine Offset station; it simply downloads the logger data periodically and dumps it to disk. The disadvantage that Cumulus has in this situation is that it doesn't process 'live' data while it's downloading logger data, so you get gaps in the data while it's downloading the logger data. If you haven't got a huge backlog to download, the gaps are quite small. If you have several days data to download, the gap can be 20 minutes or more.
I guess that what you ought to do is try EW and see if it meets your needs.
