I have a 1050. could I buy a new 1080 console or a Watson w 8681 (same?) to enable the 1050 iss to communicate with the Watson console and thus my pc?
I would save 50% of buying a new Watson 8681.
if this works out, i would hope to join the good ship Cumulus.

HI
I have a WH1050 and a WH1080 and have never got the 1050 TX to talk to the 1080 RX and visa versa
Tried many times even though they are both on 433mHz
So you may be lucky but from my experience I doubt it
The WH1050 has no wind vane or usb interface
Better to buy a WH1080 and you will have a spare Rain Gauge and Anemometer from your WH1050

I expect the data format or modulation is different.

Yeah, I'm sure they're different. My 1050 has just lost it's display (completely blank now), anyone still have an old 1050 console, willing to part with it? Otherwise, if I'm buying all new, I'll bite the bullet and start using the proper kit.
I'd like to keep the 1050 running anyway as backup - we get fairly extreme weather here and apart from the display, all the ext kit is running well and reliably.
Anybody know where the anemometer tops out, mine seems to limit at 75 mph, got that several times and it's too much of a coincidence.

My supplier shows different part numbers for 1050 and 1081 transmitters and other parts. I haven't seen pictures of the 1050 so I don't know if they are physically different though.
