Quite possibly related, yes; there would be less data to fetch. Yours didn't display when I first looked, and then when I refreshed, it did. Now it doesn't again. Basically the WOW site is broken/overloaded at the moment.Sunfish wrote:Just a thought...could the failure to display graphs have anything to do with 'upload intervals?

I was using a whole range of intervals from 3 to 15 min yesterday when it was working OK. Today I have stuck with 15min and its not displaying. Have tried adjusting the time interval downwards now, but its still does not induce anything so have set it back to 15 min.
Also, I tried editing the uploaded data on the site for the last few time slots and re-submitting it to see if that provoked any data display, but no luck.

Just a thought...could the failure to display graphs have anything to do with 'upload intervals?

Why not give the IT dept at the Met Office a call.
I had a problem with initial registration and they were very helpful.

I have just submitted some comments on their Feedback form! Strangely enough my site is now displaying the graphs - for a few seconds - but then they seem to disappear again on their own accordSunfish wrote:Why not give the IT dept at the Met Office a call.

Have just thought to check my Firefox error console:
Error: getChartData is not defined
Source File: http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/js?s=initialiseGoogleCharts
I'm sure there's some sort of time-out going on.
Hope they are not using Google Docs for this

Yes, hence the randomness of whether the graphs appear or not. Hopefully the performance will improve at some point.stuartp wrote:I'm sure there's some sort of time-out going on.

Re: WOW updating - so far so good
My graphs have been broken for a couple of days. Might it be linked to changing the 15 minute update?
Sunfish, are you updating at the default 15 minute interval?
If it's beta shouldn't we have a way of reporting problems? Or are the Met Office all mind readers?

Yes, I haven't changed the 15 minute default. Since everything was working OK, I resisted the urge to fiddle about.
So far, have not lost graphs or any data.
Managed to upload a picture-LOL

Then I think that is what might be causing the problem. There is a feedback link in the lower left of the WOW screen so I have reported the problem. Let's see what happens.Sunfish wrote:Yes, I haven't changed the 15 minute default. Since everything was working OK, I resisted the urge to fiddle about.

The graphs on all of the sites I've looked at come and go - including Moor Park Weather - irrespective of the upload interval being used.

Moor Park is showing a graph for me but just changing the stationID to mine makes it disappear.
Hopefully the beta team will sort things out.

Re: WOW updating - so far so good
I noticed the said graphs were not working early on, mine seemed to be worse than other peoples so I emailed wow; after a couple of days I had this reply from the senior project manager;
"Firstly, apologies for the delay in responding. Thanks you very much for
your feedback and your interest in the website.
The graphs should certainly be displaying, if you would be so kind as to
forward me a screenshot of when this does not happen, that will greatly
assist in trying to identify the problem."
I sent the screen shot with and a couple of comments regarding speed and auto page refresh.
I have seen the issue with IE7, Opera and Firefox, and also a Weather display user, like others have said, it looks like there's some sorting out to do on their part.

Your graphs are showing--seems one has to refresh the page.

Just had a reply from WOW:
"Apologies for the delay in responding, but just to let you know that
this has been raised with the Technical Team who are investigating both
the graphs issue and the performance issue.
Thanks again for your interest and for taking the time to provide
feedback."

Re: WOW updating - so far so good
All,
I've been pointed in the direction of your forum by someone on the Met Office Newsgroups, so I just wanted to post a quick note to thank any of you who have taken the trouble to have a 'play' with the website and provide feedback.
I've been very busy with the "Beta Feedback" mailbox (which is a good thing!), and I notice from a quick scan of this thread that I may already have had an electronic conversation with one or two of you!
Also to let you know that we we have been working on the performance issues (at the expense of most other things) over the last day or so. We now have a host of performance improvement changes lined up which we will get out on Monday. I've posted a broadcast message (which will appear on the homepage above the map) to let everyone else know.
We have very much appreciated all the feedback, testing and assistance so far, so thank you all very much.
Regards,
Adrian Shand.
WOW Project Manager.
