RayProudfoot wrote:Steve, how much work would it take you to provide an archive option? If it's a significant amount then it probably isn't worth it. But I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to upload archived records. Mine go back to May 2009. I guess yours are even older.
What it would consist of would be a routine which went through all of the data logs, extracting the data and constructing URLs according to the WOW update protocol (converting the data to the correct units) - as in the link I gave earlier.

This functionality is completely independent of the normal operation of Cumulus, and I don't propose to write the code myself. But there's no reason why someone shouldn't write a stand-alone program to do it.

Steve,

That's a lot of work so I understand your reluctance to get involved. Fair enough.

Mark, I'm not entirely comfortable doing that for what is a relatively short period but thanks for posting how you did it. Maybe someone is braver than me. ;)
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

steve wrote:It's gloriously sunny here, so those of you having rain, please keep an eye on the rain figures.

Note that for stations using 0900/1000 meteorological days, I'm sending 'rain since midnight' for 'rain so far today'. I'm not sure whether that's what they expect or whether they want us to stick to our meteorological days.
From their confusing and laborious rating system: http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/support?cat ... iteRatings

Reporting hours

A: Will always aim to provide a weather report at 09:00 GMT. Daily temperature and rainfall values relate to standard 24 hour period morning to morning.
B: Will always aim to provide a weather report between 06:00 and 09:00 GMT. Daily temperature and rainfall values relate to standard 24 hour period morning to morning.
C: Daily temperature and rainfall values relate to the 24 hour period midnight to midnight. This is the default for most automatic weather stations.
D: Air temperature and rainfall terminal hour is other than A, B or C above, or extremes do not relate to 24 hour periods.
U: Reporting hours unknown or not stated.

So A or B = 09:00
C = Midnight

Presumeably you have to have reliably filled in your station details somewhere ?

Yes, that's what I thought was probably the case, but they could have made it clearer.

Yes; but the options didn't seem to cover all cases. I filled it in the best I could. I guess someone ought to give some feedback on the rating system.

On a general note, the WOW site is very slow. I've tried using it at home, at a friends house and now at work -- loading time is really poor.

Daj,

I have noticed that too.

First I though it was my home connection, but since
trying at work I have also found it as slow here.

Hopefully they will speed it up when it gets out of Beta.

Perhaps they have it on a seperate "Test" server
which is slower?

Very slow! I left one of your pages loading, went and made some lunch, ate it, played with the cat, came back and it's still only got the background!

I have to agree that performance is very slow but as already mentioned it is in Beta. Strange graphing of the rain, the start of a new day seems a bit early even though the data is correct i.e. 1 hr. This probably has to do with BST.

A quick thank you to Steve for getting out the update so quickly after having been away from home for the week I'm sure he had lots to get done so, much appreciated! :D

Same here David. Maybe they've been taken aback at the response to WOW. Then again, times are hard in the MoD so maybe they cobbled together a server from bits bought on eBay.

Ray, Cheshire.

It is. And the rainfall slope downwards and to the right had me foxed for a minute until I remembered Cumulus updates every 15 minutes.

eBay, well the graphics and layout bear a strong resemblance to the PWS site.

If you turn on the debug log and wait a minute or two after an attempted WOW update, you'll see the log of Cumulus sending the data, and any error message returned by the WOW server.
