Free Web Hosting

Post by captzero »

I found this site but have not tried it. It sounds very good.

http://www.zymic.com

Free hosting features include PHP/MySQL, free sub-domain names, Ad-free hosting and an overly generous disk and transfer allowance. Zymic.com's free web hosting is ideal for personal and business websites.

Wiki has been updated.

See the 'non-compatible' section. They don't allow weather sites.

Thats a bummer. I thought we were onto a winner. Their site says

15) What type of websites are not allowed to be hosted?
Any websites which are illegal, contain copyrighted files (warez), adult content, spamming scripts, web proxies etc. Please read our TOS before sign-up.

I couldn't see anything in their TOS.

My test site was closed down, as was another one. I can't remember if it was previously mentioned in their AUP and now it's not, but see: http://www.zymic.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28349

Perhaps they have realised how stupid they were being and have relented?

I have adjusted the Wiki to ensure no one signs up to the zymic.com site under false expectations. If anyone has evidence that zymic.com will allow weather stations sites then please advise on this post.

How strange!!! If they allow FTP and server hosted scripts then why not weather?! If it's a question of traffic rates, that's covered elsewhere. Definitely seems like Meteorlogicalphobia!! Or maybe that should be Meteor-illogical-phobia!
Gina

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

I'll try to redeem myself after my intial post.

I have my site hosted with glovine and pay a small monthly fee but they also offer two free packages. See http://www.freeglovine.com/

Free Package 1
» 200 MB of Storage
» 1,000 MB of Monthly Transfer
» 1x Free E-Mail Account
» 1x MySQL Database
» No Ads Required

Free Package 2
» 1,200 MB of Storage
» 10,000 MB of Monthly Transfer
» 5x E-Mail Accounts
» 5x MySQL Databases
» Permanent Ad Required

I'll leave the wiki to be updated by others if its found glovine are a viable option.

Glovine is already in the wiki. I see that a number of commercial web host services have registered on the wiki and have simply added an advert for their hosting. There's no indication whether or not they have been proven to be suitable for Cumulus by a Cumulus user; I think I may have a tidy up later.

I noticed that too -- I think we should rework the page to only list web hosts we know are happy with Cumulus hosting.
