Cumulus Support

Have you ever wondered about going open source with your work? Maybe others could start helping you out then?

Obviously I can not answer for Steve and he is currently away for a few days, however although I think Opensource is a great concept for projects in this case I think Steve has put so much effort into Cumulus so he needs to protect his asset. Hopefully making some cash along the way.

I think he makes enough money to buy new software tools and charting resources but I doubt it even keeps him in beers after that.

I sometimes think it would be good if he could have a close band of collaborators to help him in development but I guess that is fraught with problems too -- usually you need to develop a tool with collaboration in mind from the outset. I would hazard a guess that Cumulus started out small and grew arms and legs into this excellent tool.

It's very unlikely that I'll ever make Cumulus open source, for a number of reasons, including those that David has mentioned.
