New download

I have uploaded a couple of additional links to my website, which runs on the standard Cumulus templates in v1.9.1
I now need to download Cumulus to a new PC and wish to include/retain my added data.

I seem to recall that, in the download process, there is a box to click (or unclick) that will avoid 'overwriting' the additional data.

What is the procedure for this?

I can't tell, when you use the word 'download', whether you really mean 'download', or whether you actually mean 'install', or even 'copy'. The check box that I think you are referring to appears when you run the installer, and is intended to avoid overwriting modified web pages when upgrading/installing Cumulus on a PC which already has Cumulus installed. On a new install to a new PC, there's nothing to overwrite, so you wouldn't want to choose that option anyway.

Can you explain exactly what you're intending to do? Are you going to follow the procedure described in the wiki for moving your Cumulus installation to another PC?

You are right. I am "installing" Cumulus on a new, Windows7 PC.

What I want to do, is transfer (copy) the existing Cumulus program from my old PC, which runs on XP.

Steve, I have been using the various betas for the last few months. Now I am about to install the release. All of my web pages are custom, and I know to save them before installing. Actually, I save the entire Cumulus folder, in case I need to revert back. But, I also don't let the betas overwrite the web files when I update the betas, so my web files are quite a few months old.

So, my question is this: Are the new web files changed sufficiently that I should install them, and then modify them to match the functionality of my old web files, or should I just copy the old web files over the top of the new ones? In other words, are your new tags in the web files now, meaning that I should start over, or are they unchanged? I read the help on the installation dialog, which says they will be overwritten, but I suspect I can tell it not to overwrite during the installation.

And finally, I have closed Cumulus and of course data is not being collected. Am I in danger of losing any data when I install the release over the top of my previous beta?

You need to tick if you want to install the new web templates over existing, can't recall if it is a prompt or part of install process. In a similar case were I updated from previous stable to 1.9.1 beta and release I had to reinstall to get the new webpage templates because of so many new webtags that I did not have in my previous version web pages. Not sure how you can check if there are any new webtags from your latest beta to release version.

As best as I know, install over previous does not affect the data files as they will just continue from previous to new versions, but of course your good backupS will give you more comfort. Since you have already did various new (beta) installs this will be old hat for you. I have been very impressed with v.1.9.1.

Here's an update, in case it will help someone else.
The only two new webtags between my older web pages and the release pages are the highest and lowest dewpoint tags in the Records page.

To make this test, I copied all my web pages to a new folder 'web-custom'. Then I installed the new release. Then I looked at the web pages in the browser, and they had indeed reverted back to originals. Then, I compared each page in the web-custom folder with those in the web folder using Compare It!, which is one of the best file comparison tools available, due to its ability to wrap lines, and resync when things are inserted between comparable sections.

After I copied the new tags to the custom page, I saved the 'stock' pages in a backup folder for comparison purposes and then copied the files from the custom folder to the web folder. After all this, I have my original web pages back, with the two new webtags added in. There are easier ways to do this, but I wanted to be careful and have backup copies of everything, so I wouldn't make a mess of my web pages. I also wanted to be absolutely sure about what had changed in the release.
