Cumulus and 800x600 res

Post by scotweather »

I installed the latest release and must admit having scroll bars is much better but still not ideal and difficult to view still on a 800x600 screen res.

On the configuration page for the weather station this doesn't give you scrollbars and I had to hide the menu bar at the bottom of the screen to be able to click the OK button to update which weather station I was using as the config page is 800x600 so some scrollbars on that too would be beneficial... not everyone knows how to hide the windows menubar

I don't know enough about VB programming but I know this is a silly question but couldn't the font sizes be either reduced or configurable ? If the font sizes were reduced you can get a lot more on the screen... just a thought!

For those of us being forced to use a screen resolution of 800x600 ;)

Cheers

It isn't written in VB, but I get the point :)

The new resizing and scroll bars aren't intended to make it usable on a screen smaller than 1024x768. 800x600 isn't supported.

I can't just reduce the font sizes, the entire layout would need to change too.

I suppose I could put the resizer back in, with an ini-file switch to enable it, at your own risk. I can't remember what problems it caused exactly, I think it might have been crashing the wind gauges. And of course now the station settings page is too big as well, so I'd have to put a resizer on that too. And I don't know how the resizer and the scroll bars would work together... :(

I'll put some thought to it.

Thanks Steve

The problem is I have no choice but to use 800x600 res on an old laptop due to WS2300 connection and Cumulus is obviously off the screen. There was no problem with the software just the display.

I've put the resizer back in with an ini-file switch... and when I start it up at 800x600 it crashes immediately :( If I start at 1024x768 before starting it, and then switch to 800x600, it works but looks horrible. Some bits don't seem to be resizing properly. Anyway, I'll leave the option in so you can try it. It may be fixable. I'll be uploading a new build shortly.

I've reduced the size of the station config screen anyway, so it hopefully fits 800x600 better.

I've uploaded the new build with a resize option:

http://www.nybbles.co.uk/downloads/beta ... sSetup.exe

To enable it, add

Resize=1

to the [Display] section in cumulus.ini.

But it will probably crash on startup at 800x600 :(

One thing about the recent changes to the screen resizing that I noticed, is that the Cumulus window opens half way across my 2 monitors. It used to open on Monitor 1 of my dual monitor setup but is now half an half.
I've seen this with other programmes and isn't really a problem but worth noting.

I set the default startup position to be 'desktop centre' because it was opening up on my PC in a strange position, so I thought I had accidentally changed it - so changed it back to what I thought it had been. Clearly not! I'll experiment with the other options, maybe 'screen centre' is what it should be...

I've simplified the screen resizing to cater for resolutions below 1024x768 and it doesn't crash now. It's not pretty, but it's better than having the display cut off:

Is the re-size option available in V1.8.7? I tried Resize=1 in the ini file and it seems to have no effect. I run Cumulus in a small secondary LCD display and it would be nice to lose the scroll bars, even if the result is a little ugly.

Yes - but I did some slight improvements in the 1.8.8 beta just to improve the appearance a bit.

That option doesn't have any effect now; it automatically resizes on any display less than 1024x768. Or it should, anyway. What size display are you using?

Re-sizing doesn't seem to have any effect for me. My secondary display is 800x480 and my main display is 1920x1080. The text & graphics remain the same size whatever the window size.
