Liveview does not work on Windows 7
I have the standard web view page and the liveview option using MS Silverlight on our club website www.nusc.co.uk but I have found the the liveview does not fully work on my Windows 7 computer but is fine with an XP machine. I find in windows 7 all the guages are displayed ready to be filled but data loading never completes
. I need to see if this is common on all windows 7 platforms or if it is particular to my set-up. If someone could test it for me out there with a windows 7 PC and report back it would be good
. The links to the two types of weather station views are on the left on the main home page along with other links.

I have just had a look at your website, on both liveview and normal weather pages and they both work for me and are updating OK.
I am using windows 7 Home Premium 32bit and using Firefox 4 browser.

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
What is "Liveview"?
Edit: Ah, you mean "Cumulus Realtime"! Perhaps I should change the name to "Cumulus Liveview", I quite like that, particularly as someone else is now using "Cumulus Realtime"
It works fine for me with Windows 7 x64, Firefox 4, Silverlight 4.
John, when you view it in Windows 7, are you using exactly the same URL as on the XP machine?

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
I found that realtime does not work on my website if I connect the browser over the local network (with the same symptoms, I host the website on my own server), over the internet it works fine. This is because the realtime component on my site is trying to download realtime.txt from the internet URL, which on the internal network just opens the router web admin interface.

Hi Mark.
Your site loads fine here in Google hrome but wont in IE9.
Am having other issues with IE9 ie. pages at Virgin Media are plain text.
So, it may not be your site thats the issue.

Ta Phil. I don't have IE9 on my work laptop only IE8 and that works OK - my work laptop is the only one I can use to access my web site from the 'Internet', by creating a VPN tunnel out, and connecting back through the work proxies.
Any idea what the problem is with IE9?

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
Mark, I have the same problem on my local/internal network.mcrossley wrote:I found that realtime does not work on my website if I connect the browser over the local network...
The reason for the problem is the 'CumulusRealtime.xml' file - it need a 'real' URL address for its '<realtimeURL>http://real_address/realtime.txt</realtimeURL>' - a relative address does not work!
What I have done to 'circumvent' the problem is that I have created two 'CumulusRealtime.xml' files, one with the local/internal network address and one with the Internet address. When the script starting 'CumulusRealtime.swf' is loading, it check the IP address (from where the request is coming from) and copy over the appropriate 'xml' file.

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
Yes Sorry Steve the correct name is CumulusRealtime it is me that called it Liveview on my website link. Thanks for all the feedback on the subject. At least most users can view it which is comforting to hear.
Steve, I'm assuming I am using the same URL as I get to it via the same way on my web site. Cumulus churns away on an old desktop PC at the sailing club that updates the website. This PC is operating on windows XP.
I remotely view the website using a laptop running Windows 7 and IE9. When I use the link on my website to get CumulusRealtime it loads all of the guage graphics then a window pops "Loading Data" and that is where it grinds to a halt, nothing else happens after that.
Could it be IE9? Ferhaps I should swich to Firefox 4?
Regards,
John

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
Unlikely to be IE9, your site works fine for me in IE9. You could try hitting F12 and selecting 'console' then refreshing the screen to see if you get any error messages.1113562 wrote:Could it be IE9? Ferhaps I should swich to Firefox 4?
But the most likely reason for it failing to load the data is that the domain is not the same in the browser as in the cumulusrealtime.xml file, because Silverlight does not allow cross-domain calls like that. If, for example, you were using 'nusc.co.uk' in your browser; your XML file has "http://www.nusc.co.uk/weather/realtime.txt" in it (note the 'www' difference) and as far as Silverlight is concerned this is a different domain. See https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1495

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
I think I have the reason now. I am running 64 bit IE9 and Siverlight is not compatible with 64 bit browsers. MS don't seem to have a 64bit version. If I try to use 32 bit IE9 all my graphics get messed up with random pictures being flashed up on top of the application screen. I can view Cumulus Realtime but I have to remember to switch over to Firefox.

Re: Liveview does not work on Windows 7
Yep, that is why the 32 bit version of IE is the default version to be launched, and Flash is 32 bit only, there are probably others too so it is best to stay away from the 64 bit version for now.

Do you mind me asking if your yearly rain is correct, if so, when did it start, it just seems a hell of a lot of rain for 5 months if it starts in January?
