Re: wind speed not right
When you say "what it should", how do you know what it should be reading? Or do you mean that Cumulus is showing gust speeds higher than the 'gust' speed on the console? If so, have you read this: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#What_d ... tations.3Fonegasman wrote:Hi all, I have a digitech xc0348 weather station running on cumulus v1.9.1 with Windows xp with sp2 my wind speed reads up to 20 km/h faster than what it should.

Re: wind speed not right
Either you're still not reading the console and the Cumulus displays correctly, or your weather station doesn't work the same way as everyone else's.
'Latest' in Cumulus is the speed the console displays when the 'gust' icon is displayed, and 'average' in Cumulus (assuming you haven't set Cumulus to calculate the average) is what the console displays when the 'gust' isn't lit.
Wait for the Cumulus display to change; you then have 40 to 50 seconds before it changes again. Take a screen capture of the Cumulus display and attach it here. Before the console display changes again, note the two figures that the console displays: when the gust icon is lit and when it isn't lit.

Re: wind speed not right
Looking at the BOM, AU wind speed observations (And also The Met Office, UK) the wind speed is usually always 50% or more of the gust speed. When I had cumulus not calculating the wind speed 10 min average I found that my gust was similar to the 3 closest BOM stations but the wind speed was considerably lower. By checking the "Calculate 10-min wind average" my observations, both speed and gust, now mimic the 3 closest stations, give or take. You can see the settings I use in the screen shot.
So I reckon that Steve's average calculation must be similar to what the BOM use for it's observations, and the console does not.
I almost never compare wind values between the console and Cumulus for this reason and am happy with my data compared to the BOM data.
Gerard.
