FOSCAM FI8905

Post by rayauger »

Hi to everybody,

Just want to share my experience using a Foscam FI8905 ( ...so far ). Maybe some of you might be interested.

- bought it from Ebay for 105$USD delivered @ http://myworld.ebay.ca/ibestmartasia They are authorized dealer.
- Hook-up is easy and worked right away. Instruction sucks but google rocks so......you can try youtube too
- I would suggest you do all your setting while the cam is hardwired to your router. It is faster and more stable.
- I use WEP for security. WAP was giving me problem but keep in mind I am using an old Dell TRUE Mobile 2300
- I use the software that came with cam. FTP with WU is fine although Foscam default setting is set to Active mode ( PORT ) which dooes not seem to work with WU. I had to switch to Passive ( PASV ).
- I could not get Yawcam to connect to the cam
- Realtime is fine using their software.
- I had to unscrew the front to refocus the lense but it is still a bit blurry
- Color sucks esp green which is rather brownish.Apparently due to its IR sensibility required for night viewing. Filter might help. Will eventually give a try using a SLR lense filter just to see what it does.
- Bottom line is for 100$, you get an outdoor cam that does the trick. Might have to pay 2-3 times more to get better image quality

Here is all the links so you can see for youself.

WU @ http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstat ... Select=PWS

Cumulus @ http://pages.videotron.com/meteo/

A mix of Cumulus and WU ( the cam on your right is about 5Km away from the other and the cam is another 5km away)

Realtime Foscam

http://chaudiere.dyndns-web.com:8080/

Username = invite
pw = gratos

BE CAREFUL there's two different login depending upon which browswer you are using.

and if you are ask again for username and pw in a separate window, just enter the same info again

and if you want to see exactly where the camera is located, type: G6W 8A9 in google map

Hope this help

Been playing with a slightly different version of this myself. Not really intended for this project, but thought I see what it could do.

I have a test page up at

Nice low cost <$90 wireless pan and tilt webcam.

So far the 8905 is fine but again day color sucks. There's new cameras coming out with IR cutoff filter that will come on at daylight.

Here is the link:

http://agasio.com/

and obviously there are from China

There's also very good cameras made in USA from Sharx Security.

http://www.sharxsecurity.com/products.html

and you can view a live demo at :

http://sharxdemo2.servehttp.com:8151
http://sharxdemo2.servehttp.com:8150
http://sharxdemo.servehttp.com:8157

They seem to be more money that Foscam/Agasio. Surely because they are better built with higher quality components but one thing for sure, they do answer their emails and got excellent rating for customer service on Amazon.com

Info@sharxsecurity.com

Hope this help,
