Stevenson Screen at the Eden Project

Post by Solorize »

When I was down in Cornwall last week on holiday we visited
the Eden Project. And while I was walking about I spotted a
stevenson screen much to my surprise.

I popped over and had a look at it and it looked very cheap,
and was made out of very thin plastic. I think our homebrew
stevenson screens are much better than this one. I should of
had a word with them and given them the link to our plans ;)

It isn't a Stevenson screen but a structure very similar to the shielding Davis uses for the VP2. It's positioning looks okay. Does it upload to any internet sites? A comparison with nearby stations would show how accurate it is.

Hi Ray,

I have had a look at the Eden Project website, but there is nothing
there. I guess they must keep the info for themselves?

As I am no longer down there ( as my holiday finished  ) I cant ask anyone.
But would be interesting to find out.

Hi
I don't think a comparison to other local stations would be valid as Eden is in an old clay pit and must have its own microclimate.

But wouldn't that make it all the more interesting? Providing the instruments were positioned correctly the results would be valid. Somewhat like frost hollows like Rickmansworth. It's what's makes weather interesting. :D

Hi Ray

I was only referring to the comparison of accuracy - the differences are certainly interesting and I'm sure that is why its there so Eden know what can be grown in their micro climate.

For those who have not been to Eden the pic is inside the tropical biome

Hi Alan, I wasn't suggesting a station be placed inside one of the domes. That wouldn't make much sense apart from a curiosity point of view. The photo provided by the OP showed a sensor in the open as far as I can establish. That was what I was suggesting.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.
