Contrails

Post by robynfali »

I know its pretty boring stuff, but when you mix them with blue skies, i think it looks nice, when I was a kid I always thought it's how clouds were made (sad I know)

There was a short article on contrails in the current edition of BBC News' Weather Show.

Apparently there is a theory that the clouds created by them are good at reflecting heat away from Earth. Scientists looking at data from the USA, when all flights were grounded for three days following 9/11 reckon they detected small changes in the heat reaching the ground.

Could this be the solution to global warming - increase air flights by 1000% :o

Its probably still available on iPlayer.

The contrails sometimes cover the whole sky with haze here. Here is an old photo http://www.wilmslowastro.com/gallery/al ... 95209.html
